Earlier this month, TikTok launched a streaming of music to confront rival platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. This Monday (24), Elon Musk’s Twitter abandoned its famous blue bird logo and adopted a white ‘X’ on a black background. Just by these two examples, it is clear that the battle for the audience on social networks is always gaining new chapters. And this Tuesday (25) TikTok, again, is starring in one of them.
The short video social network decided to innovate in its new update, and added a text feature, offering users another way to express themselves on the platform, in addition to videos and photos. The new feature also allows for the customization of publications with music, location and even duets, which are video reactions to publications by other users.
“These features make your text posts as dynamic and interactive as any video or photo post,” a TikTok spokesperson told the BBC.
Owned by the Chinese ByteDance, it is not new that TikTok entered the competition for the attention of users. The platform recently launched a streaming of music, called TikTok Music, in Brazil and Indonesia. Last week, the company also launched a beta version of the service in Singapore, Mexico and Australia.
According to the platform, the new service allows users to listen and download the music they discover on TikTok, in addition to sharing their favorite tracks and artists with their community. Very similar to what the streams competitors.
In 2021, the social network became the most popular online destination in the world, getting more hits than Google. In the same year, TikTok also claimed to have over 1 billion active users worldwide.
Competition between rival social media companies, such as Meta (owner of Instagram) and X (Musk’s former Twitter), has heated up in recent weeks, especially after the launch of Threads, a social network of short texts launched by Meta in 100 countries, including the United Kingdom, in a brazen competition to the extinct bird.
With very little fanfare, Mark Zuckerberg’s social network gained more than 100 million users in less than five days, despite already showing a 20% drop in the number of daily active users. Perhaps, with the radical changes that the South African billionaire has implemented in the old Twitter and the news that Meta should soon bring to Threads, that number will rise again. And now, the dispute will have a little more emotion, with the entrance of TikTok in the ring. We’re watching!
