The new play brings elements of the historical leadership of athletes such as Socrates and Wladimir, including during the demonstrations for “Diretas J”
Nike and Corinthians announced the launch of the club’s third shirt. Following Corinthian Democracy as inspiration, the new piece brings elements of the historical leadership of athletes such as Socrates and Wladimir, including during the demonstrations for “Diretas J”, 40 years ago.
The uniform took on a vibrant yellow tone, a reference color used by players, artists and journalists at the rally that took place in the center of São Paulo, calling for the return of direct elections in the country. The date was immortalized on the inside of the shirt, at the back of the neck, with the inscription “Vale do Anhangaba – So Paulo/SP – 16 April 1984”.
The Nike logo and the Corinthians badge, in black, feature painted marks in red, while the shorts and midsection, in yellow, complete the uniform.
“There is no way to tell the story of Corinthians without remembering the iconic strength of Corinthian Democracy. With this shirt, we pay another beautiful tribute to that team that marked an era and helped influence a crucial debate for the country”, said Dulio Monteiro Alves, president of Corinthians.
The creative line behind the launch of this campaign seeks to capture the passion of Corinthians fans for the club, uniting the present and the past. The images convey the unity of generations of Corinthians, from the players who participated in the “Diretas J” movement to the athletes and contemporary personalities who currently represent the club.
The choice of Vale do Anhangaba as the setting evokes the history and values of Corinthians, while the presence of figures such as Mc Hariel adds a modern and authentic touch to the tribute, showing that tradition and innovation go hand in hand in the alvinegro universe.
“Nike is privileged to collaborate with Corinthians to bring to life a shirt that represents much more than a game piece. It is a reminder of a movement that marked not only an important chapter in Corinthians history, but also played a role fundamental in the movement that sought democracy in our country. We believe that it is vital to recognize and celebrate the transformative power that sport can play in society”, added Gustavo Viana, Marketing Director at Fisia, Nike’s Official Distributor in Brazil.
