The Festival, which promotes the encounter between art and culture and pays homage
the work done by hand, having more than 80 activities this year
The Tiradentes Creative Week (SCT) reaches its 7th expanded edition. This year, SCT will have more than 80 activities including lectures, chats, exhibitions, workshops, installations, exhibitions, cinema sessions, guided tours and tours during the four days of the event, which traditionally brings together around six thousand people from all over Brazil. There will be an exhibition of crafts from various states, such as Alagoas, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais, in addition to the Artesana Warao project with indigenous refugees from Venezuela. The SCT is held annually in the city of Tiradentes in Minas Gerais by Simone Quintas and Junior Guimares to promote immersion between designers and artisans from various regions of the country.
Among the highlights of this edition is the Design Feito Mo exhibition, the result of the immersions and experiences promoted between designers and artisans throughout the year and which result in products displayed during the Week. The new feature will be the presence of a biscuit maker and a chef to talk about artisanal culinary traditions.
Participating in the lectures and chats are names such as Miguel Caas, Nli Pereira, Lu Gastal, Gabriel Kogan, Daniela Falco, Antonio Castro, Bel Lobo, Jorge Mendes, Pedro Nery, Ronaldo Fraga, Bruno Gagliasso, Roberta Borsoi, Rodrigo Ambrosio, Adlia Borges , between others. The legacy of Pernambuco architect Janete Costa (1932-2008) will be present in two moments at this year’s SCT: in an exhibition and in a chat. The mediator will be journalist Adlia Borges, a friend of the architect.
Another highlight is the Art of the Masters exhibition. This exhibition, which took place this month in the capital of São Paulo, won a version for SCT. The curators of the Tiradentina edition will talk about the importance of artistic events that recognize and reaffirm the importance of the popular universe and its artists in the construction of more diverse and plural narratives about art, history and the different identities that make up the Brazilian nation.
This edition also marks the first collaboration of the Tiradentes Creative Week with EcoSimple, manufacturer of sustainable EcoSimple fabrics, which resulted in the Tiradentes Collection. Co-created with designers Karol Suguikawa and Luly Vianna, the Tiradentes Collection features two jacquard prints that interpret the rural lifestyle and are inspired by the colonial architecture and nature of Tiradentes. Luly Vianna created a botanical print Caminhos de Vellozo inspired by Frei Vellozo (1742 1811), a self-taught naturalist, who lived in the old Vila de São José (currently Tiradentes).
During the festival, the prints take shape at the hands of the Movimento Eu Visto o Bem, an organization that employs and trains women in severe conditions of vulnerability, such as inmates, those released from the prison system, immigrants and refugees, making textile products with sustainable raw materials. Placemats, napkins, bags, purses and toiletries will be available at the Semana Criativa store or in two carts created by designer Gustavo Bittencourt and parked at the Centro Cultural Yves Alves e Mercado (Espão Razes). Germer Porcelanas also carries the prints for a collection of porcelain utensils including mugs, cups and plates.
The honoree of the 7th SCT is Matizes Dumont, from the Dumont brothers, a family of artists and embroiderers from Pirapora, MG, a city on the banks of the São Francisco River. The only man among the brothers, Demsthenes is responsible for the drawings. Although she also embroiders, it is the women who take on the task: the sisters Angela, Marilu, Martha and Svia. For SCT 2023, the Dumont Family is preparing the exhibition Metamorphosis of threads and wefts Mulheres Entre (lines), which will bring together impactful embroideries, leading to gold threads, whose central theme is women.
And the event acquired the BMW Sustainability Seal, meeting criteria known worldwide as ASG (Environmental, Social and Governance) or ESG, in English. Through Pachamama Trading the festival invested in UCS Sustainability Credit Unit. This credit remunerates the work of those who protect life on the planet, ensuring the conservation of forest biodiversity.
