On Meta Connect’s 10th anniversary, celebrated this Wednesday (27), the group’s CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg, shared how the rise of artificial intelligence and metaverse technologies are reshaping the way society experiences the physical and digital worlds. Although the physical world around us is incredible, it is the combination of these two worlds that now defines reality. Therefore, Zuckerberg also took the opportunity to detail the company’s advances in three main areas, which we tell you below.
#1 Meta Quest 3
A Meta will release Meta Quest 3 first headset of the world designed for mixed reality. With twice the graphics processing power of the Quest 2, the model is also the first device in the world to feature the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform, which the company helped develop in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. It understands and promises to expand your physical space, allowing interaction with the real and virtual world at the same time.
Quest 3 will offer content for all tastes, with more than 100 new games and experiences coming this year, many of them already adapted for mixed reality. As it will also be compatible with previous versions, the headset Give you access to a vast library of over 500 virtual and mixed reality experiences from day one of launch. #2 Artificial Intelligence
Although this has been an incredible year for artificial intelligence, most people have not yet tried this new technology. But Meta aims to change that by building next-generation AI into apps that billions of people already use.
The name of the project in question is AI Studio, a platform for creating AIs that can be used in different contexts, such as finding information, communication, entertainment, games and much more. The company is also developing AIs with unique personalities, opinions and interests to make interactions more engaging. In practice, people will be able to interact with these AIs across Meta’s entire universe of products. They will have profiles on Instagram e no Facebookand they didn’t converse WhatsApp e no Messenger. Eventually, they will also be incorporated as avatars into the metaverse.
Meta has already created some of its own AIs using AI Studio, which will begin to be implemented in the US today, in beta version. The technology uses a custom model based on Llama 2 and has access to real-time information through a partnership with Bing Search. Additionally, the group’s new imaging model is integrated with Meta AI to generate high-quality, realistic images in seconds for free.
Additionally, AI Studio will allow developers to create AIs for Meta’s messaging services. The company is also creating a sandbox to enable people who don’t know how to program to also create their own AIs; is working on a way for content creators to develop AIs that represent them and help engage and grow their communities, and for companies to create AIs that interact with their customers and help with sales and service. Wow!
However, Meta is taking some steps to ensure the safety and accountability of these AIs, including training and fine-tuning models to fit company guidelines, building internal teams and external experts to help ensure that models to be safer and more inclusive, the programming of guardrails to prevent inappropriate conversations, and the public sharing of system cards so that people better understand how these models work.
#3 Smart asses Ray-Ban Meta
In partnership with EssilorLuxottica, Meta is launching the next generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, designed so you can stay connected and capture the moment without having to pick up your phone, and easily share your experiences with friends, family or with the world.
The new model allows direct live broadcasts to Facebook and Instagram, being the first glasses to feature integrated Meta AI. Next year, a free update will be released so that smart glasses can understand the world around them and help with real-time information, such as translating a sign or a specific location.
With prices starting at US$299, the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Collection will be launched on October 17th in 15 countries, but the list also does not include Brazil.
Meta claims to be focused on making these technologies accessible to everyone and useful to millions, and eventually, billions of people. The new features announced are paving the way for integration between the physical and virtual worlds, with the aim of creating richer and more meaningful experiences for the public.
