You talk to him every day. Ask about the weather, about the results of the games, about words you don’t know, in short, it solves your biggest doubts. Sounds like someone you trust a lot and can’t live without. What if I told you that he just had a birthday and you probably didn’t know? Well, let’s applaud 25 years of what started as a simple internet search engine, based on algorithms, and ended up becoming one of the biggest technology companies of modernity, the Google! The platform’s anniversary was celebrated this Wednesday (27).
What do you think about someone turning 25? Perhaps a maturation, an evolution of skills and a big change in appearance? Apparently, Google followed the same line. To show its entire journey from 1998 to today, the company made available, in its famous Doodles (illustrations that modify the logo in order to celebrate an important date or event), a GIF showing the chronology of changes in the logo. Follow this evolution below.
The changes are not limited to aesthetics. Over time, the company branched out into the most diverse fields of science and technology, working directly in artificial intelligence and quantum computing research, in addition to e-commerce and technological devices. Some of these were successful, such as the Chromecastwhich transforms any television into a SmartTV, offering connection to streaminggames, internet search engine and social networks, but others not so much, such as the video game consoleGoogle Stadialaunched in 2019 and discontinued earlier this year.
Before we conclude on the company’s current situation, it is interesting to go back in time to understand its entire journey.
Founded by two students from Stanford University (USA), Larry Page and Sergey Brin initially did not have big ambitions for the company. Google was a simple garage project for the duo. However, the idea of organizing and classifying information on the internet soon proved to be something completely innovative in relation to what was being done at the time. As they explored the limits of this technology, the seed that would germinate Google (which, at the time, was still called BackRub) began to take shape.
This company’s expansion was as quick as a search in your own browser. In 2004, five years after its founding, it was already being valued at US$36.3 billion, indicating the demand for a technological revolution at the time! Not much, right? (ironic laughter).
Talking about browsers, Google wasn’t content with just being a search engine on the internet. web. By introducing the famous Google Chromethe company started to build new paths, expanding its operations to the media field, with the acquisition of YouTube in 2006, and for the mobile device market, with the operating system Android.
In addition to these systems that are with us every day, it is worth highlighting the essential functionalities that the company offers, such as Gmailo Google MapsGoogle Translate and Google Meetwhich transformed not only the way we interact with technology, but also interpersonal relationships, connecting people around the world and making communication more accessible and efficient.
Google plays a fundamental role in the way we interact and share information, leaving a unique legacy in a short period of time. Therefore, it is only fair to celebrate 25 years of this encyclopedia of new times. It is worth highlighting how the company, currently valued at US$1.66 trillion, demonstrates its position in the global technology scenario, being seen, by many, as the internet itself.
An artistic gift
As a way of honoring the company, showing the connection between the past and the present that built these 25 very successful years, Adnews prepared a special cover art, using Google’s own typographic variation, to celebrate its anniversary.
