Barbie’s commitment to empowering girls around the world is a source of inspiration for everyone, especially on the fifth anniversary of the Barbie Dream Gap Project. I feel honored to work for a brand whose mission is to foster the confidence and resilience that girls need to pursue a successful future, faithfully believing that example is the greatest source of inspiration. This one videocast arrives to raise awareness and open doors to a more inclusive future, maintaining our dedication to creating a world that further supports girls’ aspirations, remembering that they can be anything they want. This is the best way to celebrate Barbie’s legacy, comments Tessy Botello, Barbie’s senior marketing manager in Latin America.
Dream Gap!
The arrival of videocast coincides with the fifth anniversary of the Barbie Dream Gap Project, launched in 2018 based on research carried out by the brand, in partnership with New York University. The data revealed that many girls, from the age of 5, develop self-limiting beliefs about being less intelligent and capable than boys. To solve this problem, Barbie is committed to closing the gap in girls’ dreams, emphasizing that the limitations are not in themselves, but often in the world around them.
To further support this mission and help girls around the world, the brand launched a global auction, offering fans the unique opportunity to take home replica Barbie dolls made to look like five of role models inspiring, chosen because they represent significant advances in their areas of activity, which contribute to improving opportunities for girls. One of them Katya Echazarreta, electronics engineer and the first Mexican woman to travel to space, in addition to presiding over the Katya Echazarreta AC Space Foundation
Although progress has been made towards gender equality, there are still stereotypes and social issues that can affect a girl’s future path and choices. This project is a mission dedicated to narrowing this gap, challenging these stereotypes and helping to undo prejudices that prevent them from reaching their full potential.
