After completing the acquisition of Activision Blizzarda Microsoft announced a reorganization of the Xbox management team to more effectively respond to future challenges. The changes include Sarah Bond as president and Matt Booty in a newly created position.
There were almost two years of impasses on the part of regulators in the United States and the United Kingdom. Microsoft had several offers rejected and this month concluded the purchase of the video game developer for US$69 billion, closing one of the biggest technological partnerships in history.
Matt Booty, current head of Xbox studios, has been promoted to the role of president of Content and Games Studios, which includes taking charge of Bethesda Softworks studios in addition to Xbox Game Studios.
We believe that an expanded games content organization that allows Xbox Game Studios and ZeniMax development studios to collaborate effectively will allow these world-class studios to do their best work to expand our portfolio of games that gamers love. ZeniMax will continue to operate as a limited integration entity led by Jamie Leder, president and CEO, reporting to Matt, commented Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
However, the highlight is the promotion of Sarah Bond, who will take over as president responsible for everything related to the Xbox platform. The executive joined Microsoft in 2017 and quickly assumed the top of the organization.
Sarah Bond will be responsible for future hardware e software of Xbox, including the possible launch of a redesigned discless Xbox Series X next year and a next-gen hybrid console in 2028.
Sarah Bond will lead the team as president of Xbox, bringing together devices, player and creator experiences, platform engineering, strategy, business planning, data and analytics, and business development, Spencer explained.
The new president is the first woman and the first black woman to be in charge of the company in its entire history. Although the gaming industry generates many jobs, according to data from the International Game Developers Association, only 5% of professionals in the American gaming industry are black.
J Bobby Kotick, the current CEO of Activision Blizzard, is preparing his departure, which will take place at the end of 2023. A successor should be named by then.
