I grew up watching the brilliant humor of Os Trapalhes! They are not TV programs, which had astronomical audience numbers. But also the films, which to this day are among the highest grossing films in Brazilian cinema. Renato Arago, Ded Santana, Mauro Goncalves and Mussum were hilarious in a sense of humor that would probably be unacceptable today. But they made us laugh with laughter sketches, many of which I remember to this day. Mussum was, in my opinion, the funniest. A great comedy talent. The story of this special man, who remains relevant to this day (whether in memes, the way he speaks or even as beer), told in Musmus o Filmiswhich premiered this Thursday (2) in cinemas.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The film begins by telling the story of Carlinhos and how he was attached to his mother (played beautifully by Cacau Protsio). Then, after a few years, it’s the turn of young Antnio Carlos, who wants to become a samba singer, at the same time as starting a family. at that time he began to be part of the musical group The Originals of Samba. And finally, the moment arrives for Mussum, who almost by accident becomes a comedian, and is invited to be part of Os Trapalhes.
What did I find?
Musmus o Filmis tells this story with affection. His good humor and immense love for his mother stand out. But, especially the love for music, which at a certain point was left aside due to commitments to Trapalhes’ success. The period reconstruction is great. For those who know the names of the beginnings of music and TV, the script and certain appearances are a separate attraction. And of course, the sensational cast.
Cacau Protsio, so well known for comedies, shines in perhaps the best sequence of the film: the one in which Carlinhos teaches his mother to read. It’s impossible not to get emotional. When time passes, Neusa Borges takes on the role, and as a wonderful actress, she rocks in several moments. But the biggest attractions are the interpreters of Mussum in its three phases. The boy Thawan Lucas, who plays Carlinhos, has a disarming naturalness and smile. Yuri Maral, who plays the young Antnio Carlos, is a revelation, so much so that he won the supporting prize at the Gramado Festival.
But the interpretation that shocks so perfect is that of Ailton Graa, also awarded in Gramado. The first scene of movie one sketch (which I remember very well) from Os Trapalhes. That’s when you’re already shocked at how Ailton embodies all of Mussum’s well-known mannerisms. The work of the perfect cast helps make this story, which is told in a direct, fun and exciting way, one of the best recent biographies in national cinema.
I had the delightful opportunity to talk to Ailton Graa and Yuri Maral. Too bad it was so short. See our chat here.
