From classic films to premieres, the So Paulo Food Film Festival offers tastings of iconic dishes and addresses themes such as hunger and waste.
Who has never been enchanted by an appetizing dish from a movie? Like Willy Wonka’s thousand and one chocolate inventions in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, showing the public that the seventh art has always been accompanied by good food. With this in mind, the 2nd edition of the So Paulo Food Film Festival takes place completely free of charge from the 9th to the 19th of November, atBrazilian Cinematheque, with more than 30 films, photographic exhibitions, debates, shows, classes and, of course, tastings of unforgettable cinema dishes. A selection of the programming will be available online throughout Brazil, with 16 titles on the SpcinePlay platform.
The event will feature classic films, such as Strawberry and Chocolate, directed by Juan Carlos Tabio and Toms Gutirrez Alea, accompanied by a tasting of strawberry and chocolate ice cream. Another title that will be broadcast Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, by Pedro Almodvar, followed by gazpachos.
And there could be no shortage of attractions for children, including the screening of films such as the aforementioned Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as Lady and the Tramp and The Princess and the Frog (will we have Tiana’s famous Tostadas? Not here Adnews we are watered down just imagining).
In addition to entertaining the public and warming people’s hearts with classic dishes and films, the festival also calls for programming with a view to raising awareness about hunger and waste through films such as The Catadores and Me, by Agns Varda, and The Poo, by Galder Gazteli-Urrutia.
And to expand the horizons of spectators/tasters, the So Paulo Food Film Festival will also be the stage for premieres, such as the documentary Blind Ambition which addresses the story of four refugees from Zimbabwe who become the best wine sommeliers in South Africa ( including wine tasting after the session). The film Common Soil discusses contemporary food systems and alternative models of regenerative agriculture. Finally, the films In Search of the Star will be shown, with pizza tasting, Lambic, with beer tasting, and Addicted to Peppers.
