The magazine, created with the support of Sanofi, aims to help families and guardians with the care given to premature babies.
The NGO Prematuridade.com (Brazilian Association of Parents, Families, Friends and Caregivers of Premature Babies) and Turma da Mônica came together to launch the comic book “A History of Prematurity”.
The magazine, created with the support of Sanofi, addresses the issue of prematurity in a simple way and aims to help families and guardians with the care that premature babies need in the first years of life.
The story introduces the character Miguel, Mônica’s cousin, who is born prematurely and instead of going home has to stay longer in the hospital. As the children don’t understand what is happening, Mônica’s parents explain what care the new family member needs, such as Neonatal ICU, periodic visits to the pediatrician and the importance of vaccination.
In addition, the publication also has educational activities and a QR Code to access the premature baby’s vaccination schedule.
The official launch of the magazine took place in a ceremony at the headquarters of Alesp, Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo, this Monday (6).
“It’s a dream come true to see prematurity being addressed in a Turma da Mônica story. The charisma of the characters combined with the wide audience reached by the magazines will certainly make a lot of difference in terms of raising people’s awareness about the topic and the importance of specific care that premature babies need”, said Denise Suguitani, founder and executive director of the NGO Prematuridade.
The initiative celebrates Purple November, international prematurity awareness month and November 17th was established as “World Prematurity Day”, to raise awareness about the consequences of premature birth, in addition to providing guidance on prevention and complications during pregnancy.
