From Hollywood stars to tense moments, Adnews shows what was most impactful at CCXP23.
ACCXP23the biggest pop culture event in Brazil held between November 29th and December 3rd at So Paulo Expo, located on Rodovia dos Imigrantes at 1.5 km, brought together comic book artists, filmmakers, actors, gamers and fans of this entire multiverse of entertainment.
As it is a space full of content that is in the soul of Adnews, we were there to closely cover everything most important, and to pass on this information, there is nothing better than organizing it in analogy to one of the classics of old western cinema. by Clint Eastwood.
The good
The good side of CCXP23 was everything (*laughs*) of course I will comment on more than just that. The event organically brought together several spaces that perhaps would not work in other contexts with as much synergy as happened there. Stroll through the corridors and see the logos of brands and companies so admired by the public nerdasWarner,Amazon Prime Video,Marvel, Globoplay,Nintendo,Xbox and so many others, it generated a unique and indescribable sensation.
And for those who think about the presence of these companies in small stand formats (something that I can guarantee is not the case, since in these places it is possible to find exclusive products and gifts), they have an additional factor to enrich the stages: the presence of the most famous celebrities. loved by geeks.
During CCXP, it is worth highlighting three that transformed the pavilion into a true football stadium. The first is the presence of director Zack Snyder and the cast of one of the next big releases of theNetflixRebel Moon – Part 1: The Fire Girl.
There are those who love it and those who hate it, but there is no doubt that Zack Snyder exudes charisma and good humor wherever he goes. Being present on the Thunder and Omelete by Banco do Brasil stages and at the Arena Under Pahthe director, known for his work on films such as 300 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, shared details about his next feature film and life stories that led him to be a great filmmaker, captivating an audience that vibrated with his every word.
In addition to Snyder, the other two notable occasions at CCXP23 were the presence of the director and the cast of the films Dune: Part 2 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on the last day of the event. In the first case, director Denis Villeneuve, alongside big Hollywood names such as Zendaya, Timothe Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler, presented on the Thunder Stage a small preview of the sequel to the 2021 science fiction peak. to the Omelete Stage by Banco do Brasil, where everyone who was present could see these stars. Amidst so many euphoric cries from fans, it is worth highlighting the actress Zendaya, who, on several occasions, was barely able to express herself in the face of the public’s admiration for her.
Check out the audience waiting for the cast below:
But as not everything is rosy, this moment of exchanging affection between fans and the cast was disrupted by someone who threw a bracelet at actress Florence Pugh’s face. The actress was not injured, but that did not stop the presenters of the Omelete by Banco do Brasil Stage, in an ethical gesture, from warning the audience for their attitude.
Minutes after this unpleasant situation, the Dune team left the stage, giving way to the cast and director of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Aquaman’s publicity strategy was similar to Dune, presenting scenes from the film on the Thunder Stage and followed by a conversation and photo session with the public on the Omelete Stage by Banco do Brasil. The difference is that in the case of the film directed by James Wan, there was no aggression from the public, but a lot of affection and praise for the cast made up of Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul, who stirred the hearts of those who were present.
As CCXP is a space for everyone, even the celebrities we most admire, whether from television or social media, take some time to walk around the event and get to know a little about the stands. In one of these cases, walking around the pavilion was sports journalist Tiago Leifert, who gave us an interview sharing his happiness at being at the event.
Knowing that the year was difficult, with a strike by writers and actors, and yet CCXP, like a phoenix, managed to put on this show, shared Leifert, happy with the event.
In addition to the journalist, comedian Estevam Nabote, video and podcast presenters Leo and Miguel from PeeWee and other content creators from various platforms expressed their feelings of joy for being at the event.
The Bad and the Ugly
There were so many positive moments that mentioning the negative points becomes a thankless task, but one that must be done, considering that this is our role with the public.
During Adnews’ press coverage, searching for the press room to organize interviews, agendas and our equipment was a challenge that we were unable to overcome. Unfortunately, none of the event staff were able to provide information on the location of the room. Not even the information desk or the fire team, who should have the event map in mind to act quickly in case of accidents, were able to help us. Therefore, it was up to our team, uncomfortably, to prepare the materials and content in the middle of the corridors of CCXP23.
Finding locations for large events is usually a complicated task, but the fact that employees reported incorrect locations and conflicting information gave the organization of the event a certain air of amateurism.
Another issue that took CCXP23 from a professional event, which receives thousands of people from all over, to a low-budget amateur event was the Magic Market, the area dedicated to RPG culture that was located at the end of the pavilion. The place, unlike the rest of the event, was not air-conditioned. If there is one thing that this stuffy, dimly lit and smelly environment (putting it nicely) managed to do, I believe unintentionally, it was to transport the public to a time without electricity and basic sanitation.
The end
Despite the negative situations, it would be unfair to end this matter with such a bitter perspective, especially when it comes to an event that embraces lovers of books, comics, films, series and anime with so much love and dedication.
Despite the setbacks, the event reached an epic conclusion in celebration of its 10 years since the first edition, at a time when it was still known as Comic Con Experience. Currently, CCXP goes beyond an experience, becoming equivalent, in terms of quality and entertainment, to its renowned sisters, such as New York Comic Con and the most admired of all, San Diego Comic Con. This evolution, or better said, revolution, is the proven growth and recognition of the event, which has become an international pop culture reference.
