The Oscar has been owing a statuette to Bradley Cooper for a long time. Honestly, I think he should have taken it with A star is born. But, she didn’t. And now this year, he will have to face Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer). Honestly, I don’t think there’s any comparison. In Maestro, Bradley Leonard Bernstein. He is also the director, co-writer and producer of the film. a triumph! Maestro opens in theaters this Thursday.
For those who don’t know Leonard Bernstein, in addition to being a conductor, he was also a great composer. co-author of Sublime Love Love, for example. He became famous as director of the New York Philharmonic, and even presented famous concerts for young people on television (Young People’s Concerts), between 1954 and 1989. He was one of the most influential figures in the history of American classical music, and inspired the careers of a generation of new musicians. In addition to showing the highlights of his career, the film focuses mainly on his tumultuous 25-year marriage to Felicia Montealegre (played wonderfully by Carey Mulligan).
What did I find?
The film begins with the moment that changes Leonard’s life. When he is asked to take over the New York Philharmonic. From then on, you can already feel that the film will be marked by exuberance. Not just from a cinematographic point of view, with a agile camera and a grandiose setting. But especially because I wanted to show how Leonard was one of those personalities that cinema likes to call “larger than life”. In addition to being a musical genius (and knowing it), Leonard has a very peculiar way of seeing his personal life.
The film makes it clear that the love for his wife is enormous from the beginning. but that didn’t stop him from having his gay affairs. Even bringing them into the house, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Bradley makes it clear that this was a very natural thing for him. a fascinating personality. And his wife Felicia is not far behind. From the first moment, from the moment she sees Matt Bomer’s character, her previous boyfriend, Carey Mulligan makes it clear that she understands what the situation is. But even so, she goes ahead. Both Leonard and Felicia feel an immeasurable love for each other.
And admired
Bradley Cooper, both in his acting and directing, shows great admiration for Leonard. I don’t even eat it because of history of the nose can stain it. Bradley is determined at all costs to make everyone understand the biographer’s absurd talent. With this, he presents some sequences that are divine. the case of the balloon imagination A day in New Yorkand mainly the recreation of the scene in which Leonard conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in I will rise again by Mahler. This one takes six minutes, and Bradley studied for six years – says legend – to be able to accurately convey that historic moment.
Of course, these scenes affect the pacing of the film. Some may find it boring. But everything is so grand and powerful, it’s just another way for Bradley to demonstrate Leonard’s talent. And, otherwise, everything is perfect. Be it the change from black and white to color, from different proportions of screens. The sound, the cast, the art direction, the makeup (deserving of an Oscar), everything was phenomenal. Not to mention the sound, which even makes watching the film in the cinema even more recommended.
Like this Nyad, e The killer, Maestro It will also debut in theaters shortly before arriving on Netflix (arriving on the 20th). an interesting strategy. Personally, I prefer to see everything in the dark room, big screen and immersive sound of the cinema. But whether there or streaming, Maestro it’s very worth it.
