The NFL announced that it will hold the league’s first regular season game in 2024 in Brazil. The news was given by the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, at the league meeting in December, in Dallas, United States.
The match, which will take place at Arena Corinthians, will be one of five games to be played internationally in 2024. In addition, three will be played in London, two at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the third with the Jacksonville Jaguars as hosts, at Wembley. Germany will also host a match for the third consecutive year, at the Allianz Arena.
“Bringing the NFL to new continents, countries and cities around the world is an important element of our plan to continue growing the sport globally. Brazil has established itself as a key market for the NFL and we are excited to play in the country for the first time “We look forward to working with the city of São Paulo and Corinthians to offer a unique, world-class experience to this passionate and growing fan base,” said Goodel.
Currently, Brazil is the second country, except the USA, with the largest NFL fan base, with more than 38 million fans, behind only Mexico.
The designated teams for the 2024 NFL International Games will be announced in early 2024 and details on game dates, matchups and times will be confirmed later when the schedule for the upcoming season is announced.
“The NFL’s decision to bring a regular season game to So Paulo is significant and exciting, cementing the city and Brazil at the center of the global sports scene. Because of our hard work, we will now be able to welcome the NFL to our city by hosting this historic game that will have a positive impact on tourism, job creation and the local economy”, highlighted Ricardo Nunes, mayor of So Paulo.
