Public consultation will be open until February 9, 2024
Philip Morris Brasil (PMB) launched a campaign to inform the population about the opening of the public consultation by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) regarding the regulation of electronic cigarettes and other smoke-free products in the country.
The institutional campaign, entitled “I want to choose”, invites the population to contribute to the public consultation and aims to expand the debate in society to a discussion about alternatives to cigarettes for adults who continue to smoke.
“The best choice for any smoker will always be to stop smoking; however, those who do not do so must have the right to access smoke-free alternatives. The correct regulation of Smoke-Free Products will offer Brazilian adult smokers the right to choose potentially less effective alternatives. toxic than cigarettes”, stated Fbio Sabba, Communications Director at PMB.
The company argues that the current ban on Electronic Smoking Devices (EDFs) has proven ineffective in the face of the illicit and smuggling market in the country.
The current model allows unregulated products without any quality control to be purchased by young people and, according to research by Ipec, more than 2 million Brazilians currently consume electronic cigarettes, a number four times higher than in 2018.
The company also declares that it supports the debate for the construction of a regulatory model in which products are subject to analysis and registration with ANVISA before being placed on the market.
The public consultation will be open until February 9, 2024 and anyone can access the agency’s website to provide contributions or comments on the proposed regulation.
After the consultation closes, the topic will be re-evaluated by Anvisa and the report will be published on the agency’s portal.
