Apparently, theGoogle is undergoing a major overhaul. The company, which is increasingly investing in advances in artificial intelligence, decided that technology will be fundamental to restructuring its operations, increasing the efficiency of services such as advertising sales and customer support.
According to the CNBC channel, the reorganization of the advertising sales department will result in the dismissal of up to 30 thousand employees. However, so far, it has not been announced which countries will suffer the cuts. According to The Information, this move is a Google strategy to help customers buy more and more ads on their search engines. To achieve this, AI will create well-performing ads, dispensing with the work carried out by humans.
Regarding customer support, CNBC also reported that the layoff of 12 thousand employees (around 6.4% of Google’s global workforce) at the beginning of 2023 is directly related to the company’s new strategy, commented by CEO Sundar Pichai himself, to restructure the cost base and direct talent and capital to higher priorities, pointing to AI as a key factor.
The company’s new direction includes investing US$2 billion in Anthropic, a startup of artificial intelligence that directly rivalsOpenAIcompany of Microsoft responsible for the chatbotChatGPT. Furthermore, Google has already invested approximately US$400 million in startup months before the final agreement, which was signed around October last year.
