Owner of Instagram and Facebook, Meta announced, this Tuesday (9), the increase in restrictions on content considered inappropriate for teenagers on its social networks.
According to Meta, the new features were developed after consultation with specialized professionals.
One of the measures is a stricter control configuration in relation to content harmful to children under 18 years of age. Furthermore, the configuration includes new filters for searches on suicide and eating disorders.
Now, we will begin to remove this type of content from teenagers’ Instagram and Facebook accounts, as well as other types of age-inappropriate content, the company assured in an official statement.
The announcement comes after Meta faced pressure in the United States over allegations that its social networks have contributed to a mental health crisis among young people.
The courts of 33 North American states, such as California, filed a lawsuit against the company in October 2023, alleging that the company had misled the public about the risks of its platforms.
