Initiative promotes electrification and seeks to reach up to 100 units of the restaurant chain by 2025.
A Volvo Car Brasil and Arcos Dorados, operator of the brand McDonalds in Latin America and the Caribbean, have come together to offer even more convenience for electric vehicle users. Promoting convenience and sustainability, the unprecedented partnership expands access to charging points through the chain’s restaurants. The action should reach 35 units throughout Brazil and can be expanded to up to 100 McDonalds by the end of 2025.
The first units to receive the chargers are in the cities of So Paulo and Mairipor: three at the most sustainable McDonalds in Latin America, at Av. Bernardino de Campos, 307, one at the restaurant at Av. Juscelino Kubitscheck, 1,201, and two new ones in the city de Mairipor, at Avenida Tabelio Passarela, 42. The chargers available have powers between 7.4kW and 22kW, providing convenient recharging for users of hybrid and electric cars.
This is a partnership in favor of electrification. In addition to highway infrastructure, which has been a major focus for Volvo in recent times, we know that everyday loads are very important for electric car users. The convenience of charging the car while carrying out an activity that would already be necessary in everyday life, brings more safety and freedom to the driver, comments Guilherme Galhardo, director of Digital and Electrification at Volvo Car Brasil.
Volvo Car Brasil has always invested in electrification and believes in technology as a more sustainable alternative for mobility. In addition to the bold strategy, which began in 2021, when they announced that their entry-level car would only be available in a 100% electric version, the brand has ambitions very aligned with sustainability and always seeks to associate with partners who share the same ideal.
Marie Tarrisse, Senior Manager of Social Impact and Sustainable Development at Arcos Dorados, explains that the initiative is connected to the purposes of Recipe for the Future, the company’s socio-environmental action platform.
We have been working to add more and more sustainable solutions to the operation and offering services aligned with these values is also part of the plan. The growth in the use of electric vehicles indicates that the population is engaged in the fight against climate change and, now, they can count on McDonalds on this journey, comments the executive.
According to Marie, having electric car charging points in the company’s restaurants is part of the strategy to encourage sustainable habits in customers.
We want to invite you to be part of this change, encouraging recycling in restaurants and at home, the use of clean transport such as bicycles, electronic waste collection points and much more.
Marie explains that these actions are connected to the chain’s major commitments, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, providing an opportunity for consumers to learn about advances such as reducing the use of plastic packaging and knowing that more than 70% of restaurants in the network are supplied with energy from renewable sources.
Volvo has very clear values and commitments to the environment. These commitments go beyond our responsibility, influencing everything from the water supplier for our events to the major partnerships signed. We know that Arco Dourados has sustainability values similar to ours and that’s why we join them on the electrification journey, offering more autonomy so that electric cars can go even further, says Mirella Cambrea, Marketing Director at Volvo Car Brasil .
