A World Surf League (WSL) has just announced Me Terra as its newest sponsor. The group’s brand Unilever specializes in natural and organic foods, and focuses on promoting natural food as a key to a healthy life. Aligned with the values of the League, which is dedicated to the development of a more sustainable planet, it will be present as a partner for Brazilian surfing.
With almost 45 years of existence, Me Terra’s main mission is to regenerate the food ecosystem, redesigning food distribution and consumption. Among its areas of action are, for example, incentive projects for the creation of agro-ecological gardens in schools and the compensation of 100% of plastic in product packaging.
The pillars of action of Me Terra have further strengthened ties with the WSL, which also seeks to contribute in different ways to the protection and restoration of the environment. A fact that became even more evident last year, when the Brazilian stage of the Championship Tour, promoted by the WSL and the moment of greatest impact for the sport in the country, featured environmental preservation initiatives. Through WSL Pure, a non-profit organization that addresses issues related to sustainability in all CT events, the organization promoted conservation activities in the Saquarema Lagoon mangrove, an area of strategic importance for the local economy.
Furthermore, during Vivo Rio Pro 2023, more than 1.2 tons of waste were collected and 7 tons of carbon were neutralized. The League also demonstrated concern about water consumption and cleaning, serving approximately 8,589 liters of water in reusable cups. The Saquarema stage avoided the use of around 18 thousand plastic bottles, saving 51 thousand liters of water and approximately 1.7 tons of CO2, as disclosed in the Economic Impact report carried out by EY.
“The partnership with Me Terra is a source of great pride and is another example of WSL’s commitment to working with companies that prioritize improving global sustainability. Having one of the Unilever group’s main brands supporting surfing is a source of great joy and also a great responsibility. This new sponsorship reinforces our objective with healthy practices, solidifying the League as a sporting entity engaged in initiatives to improve not only surfing locations, but also the habits of those who admire the sport. Our sport is directly linked to nature, which is why we seek to build a legacy and transmit positive messages to each community involved in our events. Furthermore, the entry of a giant like Mother Earth into the sports sector opens up possibilities for additional investments in Brazilian sports”, comments Ivan Martinho, president of the WSL in Latin America.
A brand from the Unilever group, one of the largest consumer goods companies in the world that has now chosen to support surfing in Brazil, Me Terra is a reference in healthy eating and the development of a vegan portfolio with options for all ages. Working in the social, environmental and nutritional spheres, it seeks to adopt and disseminate good practices and promote, starting with food, a healthy lifestyle.
“We are very happy to announce the partnership between WSL and Me Terra. Together, we will be able to join forces to promote not only surfing, but also the importance of healthy and conscious eating. The Me Terra brand is recognized for its commitment to natural, nutritious and sustainable foods, values that resonate in the community passionate about sport”, comments Rodrigo Visentini, Nutrition leader at Unilever Brazil.
The 2024 Championship Tour season began this Monday (29) in Hawaii (USA) and will run until September, when the WSL Finals will take place in Trestles, California, to crown the tournament’s world champion.
