A Forbes has just revealed the ranking of the most valuable teams in the Major League Soccer (MLS), in which the Inter Miamiknown for being the current home of Lionel Messiestablished itself as the second most valuable franchise in the United States football league.
According to the magazine, the entry of the 2022 World Cup champion player into the Argentine national team boosted the team’s revenue, which is currently valued at US$ 1.03 billion (approximately R$ 5.1 billion at current prices), revealing an increase in 72% compared to 2023, when the team was valued at US$600 million and occupied the eleventh position in the ranking.
The club, which has been growing since before Messi’s arrival, when the agreement was still being built, is the second in the history of MLS to hit the billion mark, behind only the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), which continues to be the most valuable team in the league with US$1.2 billion (approximately R$5.96 billion).
This growth is due to other factors that Messi’s entry into the team brought about, such as the exponential increase in sales of licensed products and tickets to games.
Currently, it is estimated that the average value of an MLS club is around US$658 million (around R$3.2 billion).

The journey to success
As seen by the ranking, Inter Miami’s journey of growth in 2023 is largely due to Messi’s entry into the team, which increased the team’s visibility through its high performance and content related to it, such as the documentary series made by Apple TV+which also portrays the rebuilding of the team.
After increasing the team’s visibility and revolutionizing the league’s partnerships and product sales, Messi’s election as athlete of the year revitalized the public’s interest in American football.
This reconstruction process also draws attention to the fact that the team only showed growth, even during a season in which they ended up missing out on the playoffs.
Given this growth in value, performance and visibility, the club scheduled a global pre-season tour, which will visit places such as Saudi Arabia, Dallas, El Salvador, Hong Kong and Japan.
