The other day, talking to a gamer, I asked him if he wanted to see the movie Uncharted: Off the Map. The film is based on a hugely successful game and premieres this Thursday in theaters. In response, the gamer told me that movies based on games are always bad. And that never manage to convey the adventure of games. I’m not a gamer, but I watch every movie based on games. I agree with my friend that most of them are bad. But this is not the case for Uncharted. Fun, with great action scenes, I recommend you see it in the cinema. It is worth it!
Uncharted: Off the Map shows the story of Nate Drake (Tom Holland), descendant of the great explorer Francis Drake. Nate lived a quiet life as a bartender in a city. But soon that changes. The film shows his first treasure hunting adventure with shrewd partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). The two set out on a perilous search for the “greatest treasure ever found”. From Spain to the Philippines, the adventure ends up stretching all over the world. However, throughout their journey they are pursued by a group of mercenaries who are also looking for the lost treasure.
What did I think of Uncharted?
The film already starts with an action scene in the air, with Tom Holland hanging on to a box that is falling from a plane. That gives you an idea of what’s to come. And then begins a game of cat and mouse that leaves you glued to the screen all the time. At no time is he tiring. The feeling is that the mix of influence from several successful films worked on the recipe. You will feel a little Indiana Jones,of Fast and furiousfrom Pirates of the Caribbeanfrom Goonies. And of course, a lot of The legend of the lost treasure.
The chemistry between Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg works well. Tom tries to make a character different from Peter Parker. But it’s impossible not to remember when we see him flying through the air in Uncharted, LOL. Mark Wahlberg, as usual, plays Mark Wahlberg. But in this case, it suits Sully’s know-it-all ways. The villains however are just as striking. Antonio Banderas appears little as one of the villains while Tati Gabrielle knows how to fight well. I liked Sophia Ali as Chloe.
Uncharted still has a bit of humor, especially in the tirades between Tom and Mark. But there’s more, note the joke with the Scottish accent of the character played by Steven Waddington. I loved it! Humor is also present in one of the two credits scenes. And both already indicate that there is a lot of history to come. I liked!
