CoCCO of Africa Creative has an upward trajectory in some of the main agencies in Brazil
Her career began in Salvador, where Mariana S started as an art director. In March 1998, she took an important step by moving to São Paulo to join the DM9 team. Over the course of a decade at this agency, Mariana not only consolidated her expertise, but also rose from intern to creative director, absorbing fundamental knowledge about creativity in the process.
Mariana’s path took her to LewLara/TBWA, where she served as ECD (executive creative director). She then dedicated eight years as creative director in the communications area at Globo, an experience that provided her with a holistic vision, encompassing agency and vehicle.
At WMcCann, Mariana took on the position of CCO, standing out as one of the rare women to hold such a position at the time. This phase was challenging and rewarding, allowing him to take care of brands of great relevance in the Brazilian scene in the largest agency in the country at that time.
After WMcCann, she took on the role of CCO at Artplan, within the Dreamers group. Currently, Mariana S holds the position of co-CCO in Africa, one of the most creative agencies in the world. In this role, she works alongside longtime partners who she deeply admires, cementing her presence as an inspiring and influential leader on the global advertising landscape.
Mariana highlights the significant changes in her career in 2023, moving from WMcCann to Artplan and, later, arriving in Africa. Although it was an unusual year, she believes that changes, however challenging they may be, provide valuable opportunities for learning and exchanges.
The creative emphasizes that her arrival in Africa represents one of the most important moments in her career. Assuming the role of co-CCO alongside renowned professionals, she highlights the special meaning of working again at the DDB group, where she took her first career steps.
Taking on the role of co-CCO for the first time, sharing this challenge with Gordilho, Joanna and Nico, is truly a privilege. It’s the first time we work together and being as a team in a position that is usually so lonely makes a huge difference, not only in our daily lives, but also in the results of our creative work, he emphasized.
For 2024, Mariana establishes creative consistency as her main goal. Committed to maintaining excellence, innovation and creativity, she highlights the challenge of further elevating Africa’s creative performance.
