Data from the Financial Times reveals the new leader in downloads, while TikTok faces stagnation.
O Instagram surpassed the TikTok becomes the most downloaded application worldwide. According to data from the Financial Times, total Instagram downloads increased by 20% in 2023, reaching 768 million, compared to the previous year, according to data from Sensor Tower, a market intelligence company.
Meanwhile, downloads of the Chinese social network TikTok increased just 4%, reaching 733 million in the same period.
These indices indicate the platform of Metawhich includes Facebook e WhatsAppas more attractive to new users, while Mark Zuckerberg identified the growth of TikTok as a significant threat to his virtual reign.
In 2020, Instagram introduced the reels tool, allowing users to share short videos, similar to TikTok’s features, which have won over millions of users, especially Gen Z.
Additionally, there are signs that TikTok’s growth is plateauing for the first time since its launch in 2016.
Instagram’s number of monthly active users reached 1.47 billion, with an increase of 13 million in the last quarter of 2023 alone. While TikTok’s active users reached 1.12 billion, a drop of 12 million in the same period last year .
Despite this, TikTok maintains superior engagement among its more than 1 billion active users around the world. In the fourth quarter of last year, users spent an average of 95 minutes on TikTok, compared to 62 minutes on Instagram and 30 minutes on X (formerly Twitter).
