I really admire Elvis Presley. To me he was one of the greatest singers that ever lived. Perhaps the biggest. It’s impossible to measure what must have been the impact he had on music when he started in the 50’s. I’ve had the opportunity to see shows about his life, an exciting one by Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. I visited the house where he lived – in Memphis – and where he was born – in Tupello. I’ve seen and rewatched all of his movies since I was little. I also watched several where Elvis was a character. I remember with special affection A Stranger Named Elvis, 1998, with Harvey Keitel. And now I’m dying to see Elvisdirected by Baz Lurhmann (red Mill). The trailer was released today (17). And it’s chilling!
What to expect from this movie about Elvis?
The story delves into the complex dynamic between Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom Parker. This relationship spanned more than 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom. Its background is the evolution of the cultural landscape. At the center of this journey is one of the most important and influential people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley.
The race for the role of Elvis became famous. Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Austin Butler, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Harry Styles were among the finalists. No final, Austin Butler, de The Shannara Chroniclesit was the winner. He will be Elvis through all stages of life. And the movie should focus a lot on his relationship with his agent, Colonel Tom Parker. Just for the trailer I want to give Tom an Oscar for supporting role. It looks amazing. As a curiosity, it was during the filming of Elvis in Australia that Tom Hanks became the first celebrity to contract COVID.
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rufus Sewell would play Elvis’ parents. But as production had to be stopped for six months, they already had other commitments when everything resumed. With that, Richard Roxburgh and Helen Thomson ended up becoming Vernon and Gladys Presley. But there are other familiar names in the cast. Oscar nominee for Attack of the Dogs Kodi Smit-McPhee is Jimmy Rodgers. Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) is Steve Binder and Luke Bracey (Montecarlo) plays Jerry Schiling. The important role of Priscilla went to Olivia DeJonge, from to visit e The Society. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on July 14.
