March 2024 will mark the beginning of an innovative initiative, which aims to explore 50,000 km across the Americas, connecting and exploring different sustainable initiatives and impact businesses. Created by Brazilian Marcel Guariglia, Cena director and executive producer for 22 years, Jornada ESG was born from an in-depth study of the main sustainability challenges and global trends, to which he dedicated himself over the last four years.
There will be 240 days of expedition, covering 18 countries by car from the extreme south, Ushuaia, to the extreme north, Alaska. Everything will be recorded and transmitted in one online platform and on Jornada’s social networks. In the end, the entire expedition and its findings will give life to a documentary.
We carry out a curation seeking balance between the 17 UN SDGs, in which we base ourselves on local activities, different business models and operations, impact and innovation. We have mapped more than 300 initiatives and will present at least 100 to the market, explains Guariglia.
The journey will begin in Ushuaia, southern Argentina, on March 18, where they will get to know the challenges of the poles up close and address topics such as climate change, global warming, melting glaciers and endangered species. Then, continue to Chile, northern Argentina and Uruguay, arriving in Brazil via Pelotas (RS). In Brazil, the production team will travel approximately 15,000km in 70 days and visit the main capitals and local initiatives.
In So Paulo, for example, meet with the NGO Gerando Falces, and deepen the discussion of topics focused on the development of sustainable cities and communities, eradicating poverty, combating hunger, quality education and reducing inequalities.
From Brazil, the expedition continues through Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, to share initiatives dedicated to social development, preservation of ancestral culture, indigenous peoples and relationships with environmental preservation.
In Central America, topics linked to the environmental challenges of the Panama Canal will be covered, environmental laws in Costa Rica, one of the most sustainable countries in the world, in addition to initiatives aimed at social challenges in Nicaragua and Honduras, the arrival of bitcoin currency in El Salvador and socio-environmental issues in Guatemala and Belize.
Later, in Mexico, the United States and Canada, a new dialogue will be opened with experts on the main challenges of the 21st century, climate resilience, artificial intelligence and how it will be possible to make cities and communities increasingly sustainable while keeping up with the accelerated pace of industry, innovation and infrastructure, ensuring job opportunities and economic growth.
The roadmap was based on the pillars maturity of organizations and materiality, associated with delivery, execution and consistency of projects by organizations, reports the creator.
ESG Kids
ESG Kids is a space on the platform aimed at schools, more specifically for primary school students and teachers. This was the way that Marcel Guariglia found to resolve the urgency of directing collective efforts from public administrations and local companies to bring education, mainly environmental, to these locations, involving managers, schools and civil society.
In addition to providing theoretical information, the initiative also aims to encourage the practical application of knowledge in real-world situations.
By actively involving children in the search for solutions to environmental and social challenges, the ESG Journey promotes the formation of conscious and responsible decision makers, preparing future generations to care for the planet and promote social justice, highlights Guariglia.
ESG conference
The ESG Journey appears as an initiative to bring the 17 Sustainable Development Goals closer together
(ODS) of leaders, managers and organizations, strengthening the ESG culture in Brazil and in the world.
The objective is to connect innovative and sustainable solutions, exchange ideas, knowledge and practical experiences, in addition to encouraging companies, entrepreneurs, government organizations and NGOs to direct efforts towards the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The result of great curation and strategic partnerships, several initiatives will be brought together in a hub, Truman Stakeholders, which will connect environmental, social and governance solutions with the market and companies that believe in the ESG agenda, says Guariglia.
Recently launched on the market, Truman Stakeholders already has more than 50 strategic partnerships and specialists dedicated to analyzing risks and opportunities, accelerating social and environmental goals, awareness campaigns, professional training, partnerships with schools, institutions and communities.
To register the ESG Journey, the content will be delivered in three formats. The first is the logbook, which will be updated weekly, where you share route challenges and projects. The second will be the technical contents of impact organizations or sustainable initiatives.
And the third is in charge of eight episodes associating relevant themes with experts, which will feature the special participation of Ana Carla Reis, partner-director of Garimpo de Solues, Edu Lyra, activist and CEO of Gerando Falces, Amyr Klink, explorer, navigator and writer, Katiucha Pacheco, head of the channel Preto and Conversas Pretas, and Carlos Nobre, climatologist with a PhD in Meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Luciane Vieira, Founder of the company Plus ESG, Sonia Consiglio, journalist and specialist, advisor administrative and sustainability specialist, among others.
The entire expedition can be followed on the Virgíniaesg.com platform and at the end, compiled in
a documentary.
