In the first episode, about Domestic Violence, the characters include lawyer and specialist in Criminal Sciences Zeila Plath and actress Maria Gal. When commenting on their experiences as victims of domestic violence, the interviewees raise aspects such as the cycles of violence, the signs of an abusive relationship, the importance of sisterhood among women and the escalation of this type of violence. One of the experts, Valria Scarance, who is the Public Prosecutor, claims that the key to confronting domestic violence against women is perception, the observation of psychological violence.
In addition to Manssur, who presents the program, the following experts participate: Daniele Campos, lawyer specializing in women’s rights; Maria Sylvia de Oliveira, lawyer and coordinator of gender and race promotion policies at Geldes Instituto da Mulher Negra; Pagu Rodrigues, Coordinator of prevention of violence against women at the Ministry of Women and Ktia Rosa, Psychologist specializing in violence against women.
The second episode has Feminicide as its theme and features reports from Tina Gabriel, sister of a femicide victim, and Bruna Freitas, Administrative Assistant.
The guests’ stories create faces for the appalling numbers of feminicides in Brazil, when a woman’s death happens because she is a woman. Brazil is the 5 country that kills the most women. In 2022, 1,437 deaths were recorded, 61% of which were black women and 53% of the killers were intimate partners.
Considered one of the biggest advances against this scenario, the episode recalls the creation of the Maria da Penha Law. In 1983, Maria da Penha was shot in the back by her then husband while she was sleeping. She fought 19 years for justice when, in 2002, her attacker was finally arrested. In 2006, the Law was created in honor of her name, establishing the granting of a protective measure. The importance of this lies in the data: 97% of femicide victims did not have protective measures.
