You Imagineerscreative engineers at Disney, are looking to innovate and want to expand their horizons beyond theme parks. Now, the company announces that it will build residential neighborhoods called Storyliving (reference to the term storytelling, but instead of telling, the visitor can live that experience).
“As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to experience. We can’t wait to welcome residents to these beautiful and unique Disney communities where they can live their lives to the fullest,” said Josh D’Amaro, President, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.
At first, the neighborhoods would be disguised resorts that simulate a small town. The first appearance of this model is planned to be made in Rancho Mirage, California. It will have an area of 2.5 million square meters and 1900 houses. There will be a complex called “Cotino”, a beachfront hotel and visitation based on day passes – which is already done in traditional parks.
For leisure, the project has a 9-hectare lake, restaurants, squares, bars and even a club. A part will be designed especially for permanent residents, which covers an area aimed at those over 55 years old. Other attractions will be announced in the future.
The construction process will be outsourced. Although the project is still on paper, the official announcements have already been made and present the arts of the expected final result. A members club will provide access to a waterfront club and promote professionally monitored recreational activities. Disney said that the constructions – especially the great lake – will be made in a sustainable way with low water consumption and reduced amount of additives and energy expenditure.
