Film editor Rami DAguiar, representative of Cabing Editing in Brazil, is on the festival’s Music Videos jury
Coming from a family of creatives, with his father being a poet and his mother being a producer, film editor Rami DAguiar is the Brazilian Music Videos judge at D&AD 2024, which will be held in London, between the 18th and 22nd of May.
Representative in Brazil for Cabing Editing, DAguiar from Minas Gerais has worked with production since a very early age, having attended college in the United States, worked for producers such as Conspirao, and today dedicates himself mainly to international work. Voted editor of the year at the Shots Awards 2023, he is on the D&AD jury for the first time, which he considers very special.
For me, D&AD is the hardest prize to win. It’s a bar they set up there, they’re super demanding. The level is very high, says DAguiar.
For the editor, music videos are the area in which directors can be most daring. This ranges from choosing the music to telling a story, which has a more complex message. I think that Music Videos is one of the craft categories in which you can evaluate creativity, in short.
He also says he sees an increase in investment by producers in music videos and in launching new directors. In the United States, there is a legal budget for this area, but in Brazil it is a struggle, says DAguiar, remembering that there is, increasingly, a connection between brands and artists through music. No wonder, the number of music videos awarded at advertising festivals is also growing.
A curious piece of information is that, for now, he does not work with artificial intelligence. I don’t use, in prejudice, a tool that is here to stay. A survey was published on audiovisual works that tend to be dominated by artificial intelligence. And the edition is not there yet. I have the feeling that AI doesn’t have feeling, feeling still reflects.
