It seems that the company OpenAI doesn’t want to stop impressing us. For those who don’t remember, this company is the creator of CHATGPT, which left everyone impressed with the power of artificial intelligence. And now, at the beginning of the year, the company returns to the spotlight, presenting SORA, its new artificial intelligence, capable of generating videos from texts or static images.
Artificial intelligence that creates videos from texts is already a reality, but it often generated results that fell into the so-called “uncanny valley”. This means that when intelligence created human faces, there often seemed to be something wrong or it was clearly clear that they were not real.
However, SORA appears to have resolved most of these problems. In the tests presented by the company, the video generations are impressive. It is almost imperceptible that the human being shown in the video does not exist in reality and was entirely created by artificial intelligence.
To achieve this level of realism, SORA uses an advanced technique known as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), which consists of two neural network models competing with each other: a generator, which creates the images, and a discriminator, which evaluates them. This process of continuous competition and refinement allows SORA to produce increasingly convincing results.
If you’re interested in creating your own videos right now, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The company has not yet released a launch date so that end users can use the tool. For now, only the OpenAI team is generating the videos.
However, you can view all videos generated by them, including those that came out with
unexpected results, on the OpenAI website. There, you will find a variety of generated videos, along with the texts used to obtain the results shown.
The possible delay for OpenAI to make the tool available for public testing may be related to concerns about the use of technology in creating DeepFakes, that is, fake videos created by artificial intelligence.
In an election year in several countries, including Brazil and the United States, a tool with the potential to generate fake videos of candidates, for example, would represent a major problem, making it difficult to control the dissemination of false information. OpenAI said it is engaging with policymakers, educators and artists around the world to understand concerns and identify conscious use of technology.
Furthermore, SORA also raises important ethical and social questions. On the one hand, it offers fascinating opportunities for the entertainment industry, enabling the creation of high-quality visual content more efficiently and affordably. On the other hand, there are concerns about the potential for misuse of the technology, such as manipulating images and videos to spread misinformation or harm individuals’ reputations.
From what has been presented, perhaps we will soon see a film entirely generated by artificial intelligence, with actors that don’t even exist. And how will film industry professionals, such as actors, directors and voice actors, accept this new reality? This is an issue that will certainly be explored more deeply in the future. After all, SORA is just beginning to show its potential, and its impact on society is yet to be fully understood.
In addition to its potential in entertainment, SORA can have significant applications in other fields. In advertising, for example, it can be used to create highly personalized and engaging ads, adapted to the profile of each viewer. In education, SORA-generated videos can help make learning more accessible and interesting by providing visuals tailored to different learning styles.
In the medical field, SORA can assist in simulating surgical procedures or creating educational videos about complex medical conditions. In scientific research, it can be used to visualize complex data or simulate natural phenomena, helping researchers better understand the world around us.
However, it is important to consider the ethical and social challenges associated with using SORA technology in different contexts. The dissemination of false or misleading videos can undermine public trust and generate negative consequences for society as a whole. Therefore, it is essential that OpenAI and other developers of similar technologies act responsibly and transparently, implementing appropriate safeguards to mitigate potential risks.
Ultimately, SORA represents an exciting advancement in the field of artificial intelligence and visual content generation. Their future impact will depend not only on their ability to produce impressive results, but also on the way these technologies are used and regulated by society.
We’re just beginning to scratch the surface of what’s possible with SORA, and the future promises a host of
exciting possibilities and complex challenges as we explore the limits of artificial creation.
Here are some practical examples of what Sora is capable of doing:
Example 1
An elegant woman walks down a Tokyo street filled with warm, bright neons and animated city signs. She wears a black leather jacket, a long red dress and black boots, and carries a black purse. She wears sunglasses and red lipstick. She walks with confidence and casualness. The street is damp and reflective, creating a mirror effect from the colored lights. Many pedestrians walk there.
Example 2
In this case the text was Several gigantic woolly mammoths approach, walking across a snowy prairie, their long woolly coats swaying slightly in the wind as they walk, snow-covered trees and dramatic mountains with snow-capped peaks in the background, mid-afternoon light with clouds Thin frames and a high sun in the distance create a welcoming glow, the camera’s low perspective is stunning as it captures the large furry mammal with beautiful photography and depth of field.
In short, SORA marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of artificial intelligence and the creation of visual content. Its potential to transform diverse industries is immense, but it also raises important questions about ethics, regulation and social impact. As we move into a future where artificial intelligence plays an increasingly significant role in our lives, it is critical that we remain aware of the challenges and opportunities that arise with this revolutionary technology. SORA’s journey is just beginning, and what the future holds is both exciting and uncertain.
