I love a police series. And there are a lot of them available on streaming. I have separated 6 of them here. These are not recent releases, but they are series that are very dear to me. There are some with several seasons, others with just a few – that is, for all tastes. They are all worth it!
Castle –Star Plus
The series had 8 seasons. It tells the story of Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), a successful writer specializing in crime thrillers. After a series of crimes inspired by his novels, he attracts the attention of the police. Contact with law enforcement agents causes Castle to start working on a new book. And to carry out research for the new project, he takes on the role of consultant to the New York police. To do this, he works side by side with detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). The chemistry between Castles and Beckett was sensational, it’s a shame that in the end, the thing fell apart.
Mindhunter – Netflix
The series had two seasons, and is based on a book called Mind Hunter: Inside the FBIs Elite Serial Crime Unit. The series begins with Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), a young FBI agent who is fascinated by the minds of serial killers, when this nomenclature didn’t even exist in the 70s. By forming a duo with Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), they develop a innovative method that combines psychology, anthropology and sociology to discover the reason that led some of the most famous murderers of the time to commit their first crime. In doing so, and helping some country police officers solve shocking crimes, they attract the attention of scholar Wendy Carr. It helps them to make their study possible. But the problem is how to be in contact with these terrible minds will affect your lives.
The Alienist – Netflix
Two-season series. Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl) is fascinated by crimes involving a serial killer in New York City in 1896. This criminal cruelly kills boys around the age of 13 who dress as women to prostitute themselves. To investigate who the sick mind is behind this, Laszlo enlists the help of illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans) and Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), the first woman to be hired by the police department. Not to mention the detective brothers Marcus (Douglas Smith) and Lucius Isaacson (Matthew Shear). He also has the support of Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Geraghty), the same man who would later become one of the presidents of the United States in real life. Another true and manipulative figure is banker JP Morgan (veteran Michael Ironside), whose empire continues to this day.
Or Mentalist – Max/ Prime Video
The series had 7 seasons – it had a certain “tummy” in the middle – but it ended in style. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A former scammer, before that he pretended to be a psychic and medium. Five years before the events of the pilot episode, Jane went on television and said that his skills helped the police profile a serial killer named Red John. The latter, then, furious with the lie, took revenge by killing Patrick’s wife and daughter. Patrick then joined Agent Teresa Lisbon’s (Robin Tunney) team and uses his high observation skills to help find his family’s killer.
Unbelievable – Netflix
Sensational 8-episode miniseries. It is based on a true story, which was written in an article titled An Unbelievable Rape Story, written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong. The first of the eight episodes begins with the story of an 18-year-old girl, Marie, (Kaitlyn Dever) who told the police that she had been raped inside her own apartment. Subjected to several interrogations, she ended up going back on her version, which caused her several problems. This story, and the flashes of that night, occupy the entire episode. But in the second, we meet two detectives, Grace and Karen (Toni Collette and Merritt Wever), who are investigating similar cases. Their investigation and Marie’s fate will end up intersecting during the investigation of a serial rapist.
Fringe – Max
I love this series that had 5 seasons. When a mysterious plane crash on an international flight leaves all passengers and crew dead without explanation, FBI agent Olivia Dunham discovers a former scientist admitted to a Psychiatric Clinic who may be related to the case. Walter Bishop – the scientist, and his son, Peter, join the FBI team to assist in the investigation. Soon, they discover that a huge number of strange events are part of a much larger pattern than they imagined. Genetic mutation, reanimation, teleportation, parallel universes… And, without knowing it, they are right at the center of this series of events that could change everything we know.
