The eSports World Cup, which is being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, announced its newest partner, Sony. The long-term agreement also provides for the production of a series of documentaries sharing curiosities, details and behind-the-scenes details of the matches.
The technology and entertainment giant will provide support to content creators and talents in the region to produce the tournament’s official anthem.
eSports World Cup Foundation chief executive Ralf Reichert stated that the aim of the partnership is to establish a platform that innovates standards for live sporting events. According to him, Sony’s experience in creating stunning visuals, immersive music, compelling storytelling and cutting-edge technology will be a game changer for the eSports World Cup.
We are excited to make the eSports World Cup more fun and engaging for fans around the world by leveraging the creativity and technology of our diverse businesses, said Toshimoto Mitomo, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Sony Group Corporation.
The non-profit organization responsible for administering the tournament, EWCF, announced until today (01/04) the participation of 10 games, namely: Counter-Strike 2Dota 2, Fortnite, Free Fire, Honor of Kings, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Overwatch, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League. More titles are yet to be announced.
The event is part of Saudi Arabia’s strategy to boost the Games and eSports market, following one of the country’s objectives of diversifying the economy, increasing tourism and generating new jobs.
