Decision follows the publication of the TSE, which determines that paid advertising providers must monitor advertisements
Google announced that it will update its Google Ads rules to no longer allow political ads to be broadcast in Brazil during municipal elections.
The decision came after publication 23,732 made by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which determines that paid advertising providers on the internet must “maintain a repository of these advertisements to monitor, in real time, the content, values, those responsible for payment and of the characteristics of the population groups that make up the audience”.
Big tech’s positioning follows the idea that it will be unfeasible to moderate so many ads with the new rules and, therefore, it fears that the breadth of the concept of “political-electoral content” will bring uncertainty to moderation.
Among the requirements, which must be put into effect within 60 days, are the availability of ad repositories for real-time monitoring of content, in addition to a query tool that allows advanced data searches in this repository using keywords. key and name of advertisers, for example.
