Reported objectives are in six areas, such as Diversity and Inclusion, Biodiversity, among others
Globo released its 2023 ESG Report, which highlights progress in the goals set for 2030 in each of the company’s six public commitments, which are connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The broadcaster recorded milestones in the social impact of its content. For the first time, it featured black protagonists in all the new soap operas shown on TV Globo; made the 2023 Women’s World Cup the most watched in history, surpassing 64 million people reached, with a record number of games broadcast; and dedicated 99,127 minutes to reporting on social and environmental topics, the equivalent of almost 70 full days of programming on these subjects alone.
Reflecting the diversity of the Brazilian population, 72% of hires last year were people belonging to the four underrepresented groups prioritized by the company: black people, women, the LGBTQIA+ population and people with disabilities. The goal is to recruit at least 50% of women and black people by 2030 – in 2023 this proportion will be 46% for both groups.
With the case “Globo and its journey of raising awareness and creating a culture of privacy”, the company won 2nd place in the SERPRO award, which recognizes initiatives with an impact on privacy and protection of personal data. And, to guarantee the protection of intellectual property, it prepared a strategic Information Security plan, which foresees an investment of 211 million reais in the 2023-2025 period.
The 2023 ESG Report also highlights Globo’s environmental agenda in the Brazilian audiovisual sector. In addition to being the only company in the segment to win the Gold Seal from the Brazilian GHG Emissions Program, for the second year in a row, Globo implemented the Green Productions Guide in 2023 in 100% of Estúdios Globo’s productions. This means that several stages of production follow the best sustainable practices on the market. There were more than 700 actions planned by the productions following the guide’s recommendations and more than 60 meetings and workshops with the teams. The forecast is to apply the same practices to Sports and Journalism in 2024.
