O Corinthians e Nike launched the new shirts for the season. Under the campaign motto ‘Our history is a black page’, the club and brand also came together to promote initiatives to combat racism. The men’s football team debuted on the field with uniform number two, “blackout”, in the game against Fortaleza last Saturday (4), at the Neo Química Arena.
Predominantly white, the new main shirt features gradient details from white to black on the sleeves and hem of the shirt. The second uniform features a “blackout” pattern, completely black.
Actions to combat racism
In a context where at least 41% of players and professionals who work in the country’s main championships have experienced racism, actions to combat this problem are crucial. To this end, the club and the brand promote, in partnership with the Football Racial Discrimination Observatory (ODRF), racial literacy sessions for youth athletes, professional squads (male and female) and employees.
The booklet “Fighting Racism in Football” will also be made available, material that will serve as a reference for actions with fans throughout the year and is available free of charge on nike.com.
In collaboration with the Business-School Integration Center (CIEE), a notice will be launched on May 15th, offering 20 young black people with full scholarships for the administration course at the Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo (FESPSP) , which will feature disciplines focused on the sports market. In addition, students will receive financial aid and psychosocial support during their graduation period.
Of the 20 scholarships, nine will be allocated to participants in social initiatives supported by Nike in São Paulo, through Fisia, the brand’s distributor in Brazil. Another nine will be for young people linked to CIEE and two for athletes federated by Corinthians. The initiative seeks to increase black representation in sports management. In addition, the club is committed to prioritizing the hiring of these students in future selection processes.
The ‘Our History is a Black Page’ campaign is a collective call for the anti-racist fight. Signed by the agency Wieden + Kennedy SP, the campaign features a manifesto film and is starred by former player Wladimir, singer and rapper Negra Li, athletes from the current cast Wesley, Raniele, Yasmim and Ju Ferreira, former player Grazi , and student Anna Beatriz, thus representing the black protagonism of different generations in the club’s history.
Sales success
Three days after the launch of the new Corinthians uniform, ShopTimão, the club’s official online store managed by Netshoes, recorded a 184% increase in sales of the Timão II shirt, compared to the same sales period in 2023. And the piece quickly sold out.
Model 2, which has already been seen on the field, features a “blackout” pattern, completely black, and has become popular with fans. The success of this piece was such that, even when the sales of models I and II from last season were added together, the total was 31% higher. Furthermore, ShopTimão has already sold, in 2024, the equivalent of the first 17 days of sales of the 2023 mantle.
