According to the company, all new cosmetic products have at least one sustainability attribute
Grupo Boticário announced the publication of the 12th ESG Report and, simultaneously, presented the evolution of Commitments for the Future. Under the motto “together we build a beautiful future”, the update of commitments reinforces the company’s sustainable journey.
“The success of Grupo Boticário is guided by the integration of sustainability into our business. For us, there is no growth if it is not collective and responsible. All our results and ambitions only have value when shared with the whole of society, with our employees, partners , suppliers, distributors, representatives, franchisees and consumers”, says Fabiana de Freitas, vice-president of corporate affairs at Grupo Boticário.
The Grupo Boticário Foundation, founded in the 1990s, has 1,700 projects and initiatives supported and developed across the country. The Foundation is also responsible for the direct conservation of 11 thousand hectares of Atlantic Forest and Cerrado in its two private reserves in Serra do Tombador, in Goiás, and in Salto Morato, in Paraná, in addition to the discovery of 178 species of animals and plants and support in the creation of 606 conservation units.
Grupo Boticário has made eight commitments since 2021, which are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as climate change, waste, water, biodiversity, diversity and inclusion, social development and sustainable supply. The eight commitments are broken down into 30 specific goals for the entire organization.
“The result is extremely consistent. We analyze the external and internal situation to diagnose where we are in relation to global challenges and structure short, medium and long-term actions. All themes evolved in their definitions, in performance measurement indicators and in the creation of new governance processes, promoting integration of the theme into the company’s management model. Thus, each business area was strengthened in its ability to plan and execute actions that contribute to achieving goals”, states the vice-president.
The ESG report brought news with more evidence to the report on climate change and started to include socio-environmental indicators from the SASB (Sustainable Accounting Standards Board) specific to the personal products sector and double materiality, considering the socio-environmental and financial impacts suffered and caused by business.
Among the results, Grupo Boticário highlighted that all new cosmetic products have at least one sustainability attribute in their formulation or packaging. In 2023, the company achieved a 12% reduction in the volume of tons of paper waste compared to the previous year.
In 2023, more than a third of the equivalent waste generated by packaging in the year was recycled (34%), with the goal of reaching 45% in 2030. The company has the Factory Price Station project, which has a positive impact on the entire the post-consumer packaging chain, and since its launch in 2021, more than 2.3 thousand tons of waste have been collected and sent for recycling.
To increase water efficiency of the company, Grupo Boticário foresees a 25% reduction in the volume (m³) of water consumed per ton of final product in relation to 2022 and the use of at least 90% of the reused water generated in manufacturing operations by 2030. In addition Furthermore, projects such as the Formula Amiga das Águas Seal and Iara guarantee formulations with lower impacts on the environment. Among rinsable products, the Group intends to reach the milestone of 90% with biodegradable formulations and 100% of them with less water impact. Through the Grupo Boticário Foundation, the company maintains the Viva Água movement, present in two river basins in Rio de Janeiro and Paraná that impact 11.5 million people, industries and small farmers, with the aim of connecting people and organizations in actions that promote water security, adaptation to climate change, sustainable business and greater quality of life for the population.
The Group also announced debentures linked to ESG goals. One of the goals is to reach a portfolio of private brands with 100% vegan products by December 2026.
The work on diversity and inclusion takes place on the fronts of gender, race, generations, LGBTQIA+ and people with disabilities. In three years, the company reached the milestone of 56% of women occupying leadership positions. Today, they represent 60% of the more than 19 thousand employees. In terms of products, 23% already have diversity attributes and the goal is to reach 60%.
