There are several ways to help, find out more here!
The people, startups and companies (among them Adnews), who are part of the Statean independent innovation center in São Paulo, which aims to create solutions that improve people’s lives in cities together, efforts are being mobilized to help the victims of the rains that left a strong trail of destruction in Rio Grande do Sul, the worst tragedy already recorded in the history of the region in terms of material damage and humanitarian cost.
Jorge Pacheco, founding partner and CEO of State reported, “Discovering that my city (I’m from Porto Alegre) and others were covered in water, without a doubt, touches me a lot. Seeing places I know destroyed by ruin brings me a feeling of pity and solidarity, especially for the people who lost everything and the state in its entirety.
Seeing our land being devastated is a very bad and sad feeling, but what comes to mind are the people affected.
Talking about city solutions and being far from there (I live in São Paulo), I think that at first it is an emergency question of what we can really do: donations, raise resources to contribute to the reconstruction of cities, encourage people to become aware and spread positive messages that encourage others to help. In the future, after the water has receded and the danger has passed, there will be a moment of reconstruction, where new agendas of possibilities open up, but it really is a state that will need to be completely rebuilt.
From agricultural and industrial issues; apart from small traders. Unfortunately, in my understanding, it will not be possible to see a 100% reconstruction of the State by the end of the year.
We need to look at the whole picture and help, from creating a fund to lift cities, focused on small businesses, and putting together a continuous donation plan to make it possible to lift the affected cities.
Talking about the reconstruction time and with the experience in impact, I believe it will take years. Some cities are fast, but others can become ghost towns. I believe that a new state will be rebuilt, but just as important as rebuilding is taking the necessary measures to ensure that this does not happen again.”
In an internal campaign carried out in recent weeks, several items were collected and have already been delivered to Rio Grande do Sul. In total, there were four vehicles, large and small trucks, in addition to a car full of donations to the Post Office. Two of the small trucks were filled with water only, while in the large one, brand new blankets, towels, medicines, geriatric and children’s diapers, toys and books for the children were sent.
According to Thomas Gautier, CEO of Freto, a Logtech, which acts as a Digital Transport Company and provides technology-based road freight transport services and which helped the State with the logistics of donations, “My wife is from Rio Grande do Sul, we have shareholders in Rio Grande do Sul It’s a situation very close to all of us here at Freto. Even my young daughters mobilized at home to help with donations.”
In addition to donations, there are other ways to help the South, such as advancing payments to suppliers in the South or extending payment terms to customers in Rio Grande do Sul.
There are also several campaigns on social media, encouraging the purchase of products from Rio Grande do Sul, such as the brands Ritter, Elegê, Santa Clara, Neugebauer, Aurora, Salton, Prato Fino, Orquídea, among others.
According to Cathy Birle, partner and Head of Content at Adnews, also from Rio Grande do Sul, “People want to work again and need Brazil’s help to restructure, therefore, by buying products from Rio Grande do Sul brands, consumers will be helping to increase demand. for these products, promoting the recovery and reconstruction of the community, helping to sustain the regional economy, helping to maintain jobs and generating resources for the State in the form of tax collection.” And she adds, “It is very important that we join forces at this time, supporting and helping however we can. The south is more prone to cold and in the next few days, the weather forecast is that a cold front will arrive, with minimums of 6 and 7 degrees Celsius, which is why we are running an internal campaign to purchase blankets to be sent as soon as possible. Any donation will be welcome!”
In an internal statement, State released the following note:
“STATE Solidário is back and is a donation collection point for Rio Grande do Sul.🙏🏻 You can donate: mainly water, cleaning supplies, as well as hygiene items such as diapers, pads, toilet paper, as well as cat/dog food, bedding, towels, blankets, old cell phones and non-perishable food.
We count on your solidarity, comu!”
