After Coca Cola launched a new flavor in the United States, called Starlight, Pepsi also decided to innovate and show that it can. The brand announced yesterday, February 23, that it will also launch a new drink in the country. Called Pepsi Nitro, the new flavor is infused with nitrogen.
The drink announced by Pepsi will arrive in American markets from the 28th of March, with two different flavors, the traditional and the vanilla. The main difference caused by nitrogen in the drink is the creaminess effect it causes. Still, the element is mostly used in beers or coffee.
According to Pepsi’s vice president of marketing, Todd Kaplan:
“While soda has been the beverage of choice for many consumers over the past century, some people still cite heavy carbonation as a barrier to enjoying a cold cola.”
Also check out the drink packaging:
Pepsi’s inspiration was Guinness beer. With a drink with nitrogen patented about half a century ago, the brand became a classic because of the apparatus. When the capsule in which the alcoholic beverage is stored is opened, the gas is also released and creates a foamy layer on top of the beer.
Kaplan further defined the release as a “big leap for the soft drink category and will redefine soft drinks for years to come”. The decision to launch a new flavor also comes from the lack of interest of young people in the brand. Whether new ideas will reach American markets remains to be seen.
The new Pepsi Nitro is not expected to arrive on Brazilian shelves.
