Created by AlmapBBDO, an NGO teamed up with PaPoCo and Café Royal to reenact the lives of people who literally died from the cold
SP Invisível will launch the “Invisible Winter” 2024 campaign this Sunday (16), which will tell the real stories of homeless people with the aim of raising awareness.
With the play “The Longest Night”, written by AlmapBBDO, the NGO teamed up with PaPoCo and Café Royal to present a performance of real stories of people who, literally, died of the cold.
The four actors who participated in the filming received a dossier on the stages of death from hypothermia, had access to testimonies from people who suffered on the streets, but overcame the low temperatures and others who witnessed the last moments of colleagues and companions in the open.
“Dying from the cold for many is just an expression, but for people who don’t have a roof to call their own it’s a reality. In 2022, at least 16 people died in the capital of São Paulo, due to the intense cold. In 2023 there were 5. This year, we want to help reduce this number and put an end to this real situation in our society. In addition to distributing winter kits, we will also set up tents in which health professionals, on a voluntary basis, will provide medical and psychological care”, he stated. André Soler, CEO of the NGO.
The action aims to welcome at least 9 thousand citizens and prevent deaths from low temperatures. This support will be provided through the provision of food, sweatshirts and hygiene products, in order to provide a more equal winter with less indifference.
“Sometimes we use the term ‘freezing to death’ casually, but homeless people face this cruel reality on a daily basis. As a society, we cannot allow ourselves to be indifferent to this. SP Invisível, with years of meaningful work , raises this message to raise awareness in society about the importance of helping these people who so much need our attention and support”, highlights the Executive Director of Creation at AlmapBBDO.
