The Brazilian producer DaHouse celebrated a great victory on the 20th, by winning an award at the Emmy Sports 2024, during the ceremony held in New York. The award was given for the audio technological development in the ‘Dreamcaster’ project, created by the agency FCB New York for Michelob Ultra. The project used sound, technology and artificial intelligence to allow Cameron Black, a blind sports journalist, to narrate an official football match. playoffs of the NBA live on TV.
The ‘Dreamcaster’ innovated by transforming binaural audio capture into a sound language that made Black feel like he was on the court, allowing him to perceive the location and nature of each play. In-game images were converted into data transmitted to a vest and tactile table in milliseconds, creating a complete sensory environment that allowed for real-time match narration.
“We recorded several hours of games on a basketball court, positioning a Sennheiser Ambeo VR microphone in every possible position. This resulted in millions of binaural sound possibilities, providing a language for Cameron to literally “feel the game.” The final experience is truly extraordinary, transporting anyone to the middle of the court, surrounded by the energy of the players running around them”, highlights Lucas Mayer, partner and musical director at DaHouse, which has offices in São Paulo, Los Angeles and Berlin .
This recognition complements a year of achievements for DaHouse. Earlier this month, the production company was named Music and Sound Company of the Year at the ADC Awards and was the second most awarded in the world at One Show 2024. In addition to the Emmy, ‘Dreamcaster’ also won the Entertainment Lions for Sport Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions 2023. Check out the production below.
