Occupying places and bringing visibility to the history of the LGBTQIAPN+ community to all territories has always been Castro’s mission, which began as a party, became a music festival and in this edition expands its borders even further and presents itself as an art festival , culture and entertainment. Starting the LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Arena, the Castro Festival, in partnership with Amstelcame together for a historic moment: raising the LGBT+ flag at the most important Art Museum in the Southern Hemisphere, the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP).
To make this initiative official, representatives from Castro Festival, Amstel and several LGBTQIAPN+ organizations will be present at the action, which will be available during Parade Sunday, June 2nd. The project was designed by the Macunaíma agency.
“It is a moment of great importance for all of us. Hoisting the LGBTQIAPN+ Pride flag at MASP symbolizes not only recognition, but also commitment to the fight for equality and respect. We hope that this initiative inspires other institutions”, declares the businessman and creator of Castro Festival, João Felipe Villanova.
Cecília Preto Alexandre, Marketing Director of the Heineken Group’s mainstream and economy brands, reinforced the brand’s commitment to the LGBTQIAPN+ cause.
“We believe that diversity is a fundamental value and that everyone should have the right to express their identity freely and without fear of discrimination. As master sponsors of Parada SP with the Amstel brand, we will have several initiatives for the community and we are very proud to support the Castro Festival and to be part of this historic moment for everyone at MASP”, highlights Alexandre.
The Castro Festival is committed to the purpose of bringing pride throughout the year and, therefore, promoting respect for different gender identities and sexual orientations, it will have an exclusive program that brings together culture, art, content, knowledge, fun and transformation, supported by the Rouanet Law. The cultural agenda begins in August with a series of professional workshops, panels, film and performing arts shows and continues until December.
“More than a music festival, we are a space for culture, active listening and powerful exchanges between all of us. This year, we propose a new entertainment format, but we follow our premise of enhancing diversity and inclusion in a project about LGBT culture, representation, transformation and debate”, emphasizes businesswoman and founder of Castro, Lily Scott.
The flag is made of orthophonic canvas and measures 70 x 14m. The project was approved by all historical heritage bodies, as MASP is listed at three levels: municipal, state and federal; The flag will be raised on the museum’s facade from bottom to top with the support of 16 people climbing simultaneously.

Shows three videos by the artist norte-American about personalities from the black and LGBTQIA+ from the United States, rescuing and giving new meaning to their narratives. One of the videos covers the story of Marsha P. Johnson, one of the most important activists in the Stonewall uprising.
