In a limited edition, RE:GROUND sneakers arrive in Brazil to strengthen Nespresso’s commitment to sustainability.
A Nespresso, a B-Corp company that pioneered sustainable quality portioned coffees, teamed up with the French upcycling fashion startup Zèta, known for its vegan and zero waste proposal, to launch the RE:GROUND sneakers in Brazil, made with coffee grounds and other materials recycled. In a limited edition, the novelty arrived on the national market on World Recycling Day, celebrated on May 17, and proves that with creativity it is possible to give new life to any material.
The result of a year of research by Zèta, the RE:GROUND sneakers are innovative, vegan and pet friendly. Made in a family workshop in Portugal, each pair is made with 80% recycled and sustainable items, such as: pesticide-free cereal plant material on the upper; recycled plastic shoelaces; removable insole made from coffee grounds and recycled cork, sole made from coffee grounds and recycled rubber and glue made from recovered latex. Its packaging is made from recovered jute bags and the flyer with all the product information is made from recycled paper and organic coffee waste.
“We have been looking for strategic partners around the world who are aligned with our purposes, such as Zèta, to give a second life to our waste and show consumers what happens in practice with the capsules they take to recycle”, comments Fernanda Gobbo, responsible for Sustainability at Nespresso Brasil.
The RE:GROUND Zèta sneakers, available only in the color Latte, costs R$799, with initial sales exclusively for Ambassador customers on the Nespresso website. For more information about the partnership, watch the video.
Nespresso Recycling Program in Brazil
Nespresso currently has a robust reverse logistics program in place, ensuring that 100% of Brazilian consumers have access to capsule collection points, whether through the brand’s Boutiques and pop-up stores or free postal service partners.
Once collected, the capsules are sent to a recycling center in Osasco (SP), where the aluminum is decharacterized and transformed into an ingot, used in the manufacture of other pieces, such as jackets, watches, pocket knives, Christmas tree decorations, between others.
The coffee grounds are sent to the Nespresso Hortas program, being used for composting, transforming into fertilizer for the cultivation of organic gardens, with the food destined for families in situations of social vulnerability, contributing to their food security.
End-to-end sustainability
Nespresso is committed to 360° action within circularity, with initiatives at various stages in its value chain, enabling significant changes by incorporating transformative actions such as regenerative agriculture practices, ecodesign, recycling and the construction of a low-cost economy. carbon.
The robust results obtained to date have enabled the company to achieve certification as a B Company, proving the high social and environmental impact of its actions and consolidating its commitment to leaving a positive legacy in the world and becoming Net Zero by 2035.
“The RE:GROUND sneaker collection, in partnership with Zèta, is yet another way for Nespresso to consolidate coffee as a force for good”, concludes Fernanda.
