Initiative aims to promote educational and awareness-raising actions to combat the negative effects caused by fake news
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) and representatives of the platforms Youtube, Google, Meta, TikTok, Microsoft and Kwai signed an agreement to adhere to the Program to Combat Disinformation.
The initiative aims to promote educational and awareness-raising actions to combat the negative effects caused by fake news. Now, big techs will play a fundamental role in this fight.
“I hope that this agreement is the beginning of a cooperative relationship between Justice and digital platforms in confronting one of the worst epidemics of our time, which is the epidemic of misinformation and the spread of hate. I hope it will be a partnership that bears fruit and helps us make a better country and world”, stated the President of the Court, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, during the event that took place this Thursday (6).
Currently, the program has more than 100 partner institutions and operates on two main fronts: organizational action and communication actions. In the first, the STF promotes meetings, monitors results, develops and acquires technology resources and promotes the rapprochement of the management group with public and private institutions that work to combat disinformation.
In the second, the work is focused on media literacy, contesting fake news and valuing the court.
“Media education is extremely important for people to be aware that there is a new reality. It is necessary to check the information before passing it on, avoiding sharing fraudulent news as if it were true”, added Barroso.
