There’s a lot of life in streaming outside of Netflix and Prime Video. Here I selected 8 releases on other streaming platforms that premiere in June, and they are worth watching. I want them all now!
Clipped: Scandals at the Los Angeles Clippers – Dia 04 – Star Plus
The series is based on the successful podcast The Sterling Affairs from ESPN 30 for 30. It tells the story behind the scandal of a famous owner of an NBA team whose racist comments were recorded on audio and shared around the world. In 2013, famous coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) arrives at the LA Clippers with a promising team of big names. But the team’s owner, Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill), represents a family problem. He is petty, flighty and a bully, which makes Doc embark on a personal mission to minimize his influence and win the title.
The Acolyte – Dia 06 – Disney Plus
Series from the Star Wars universe. The investigation of an impressive wave of crimes brings a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae, from Round 6) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they are led down a dark path. And sinister forces reveal that not everything is as it seems.
Journey to Hell – Day 06 – Telecine
In the plot, Nicolas Cage plays a buffalo hunter who recruits a young college student (Fred Hechinger) for an expedition that goes from Kansas to Colorado.
Dono de Kingstown: season 3 – Day 06 – Paramount Plus
It is Jeremy Renner’s first work after snow accident, where he almost died . He plays an ex-convict turned head of the powerful McLusky family, who rule the city of Kingstown with an iron fist. In the new season, a series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens. A new face of the Russian mafia establishes itself in the city. Additionally, a war on drugs rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Renner) to end the war. But things get complicated when a familiar face from his past threatens to undermine the mayor’s attempts to keep peace between all factions.
Above Suspicion – Slide 12 – Apple TV Plus
Based on Scott Turow’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, the series takes viewers on a journey into the gruesome murder that rocks the Chicago district attorney’s office when Chief Deputy District Attorney Rusty Sabich (played by Gyllenhaal ) is suspected of the crime. The film, based on the same book, with Harrison Ford in the lead role, is available for rent/purchase on Apple TV/Amazon Prime.
The House of the Dragon: season 2 – day 16 – Max
The second season will focus on the Dance of Dragons, the famous civil war between the Targaryen family. This time, the separation between the Greens and the Blacks will be more visible, alliance pacts with different houses and more about families in the universe Game of Thrones. Different from first season, the narrative will be linear, that is, without time jumps. Five new dragons have been confirmed, as well as new characters such as Alys Rivers and Cregan Stark.
The Rite of Dance – Slide 28 – Apple TV Plus
Directed by Erica Tremblay, the plot deals with the disappearance of Jax’s sister (Lily Gladstone) who takes care of her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) on the Seneca-Cayuga Indian reservation, in Oklahoma. Jax uses any free time to try to find his missing sister and help Roki prepare for the ‘powwow’, the traditional gathering of the indigenous people of North America. At risk of losing custody of Roki to the young woman’s grandfather, Frank (Shea Whigham), Jax travels with his niece in search of clues to find his sister in time for the big event.
Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger – he is 28 – MUBI
A celebration of two great masters of cinema, the documentary Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger, directed by award-winning David Hinton.
