Action is part of the June Green campaign. Companies will also plant 1914 tree seedlings in reforestation area
Puma Brasil and Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras teamed up to create a uniform that aims to alert people about deforestation, in support of June Green, a month dedicated to raising awareness for environmental protection.
The action was carried out last Thursday (13), in the game against Vasco da Gama for the Brazilian Championship. In the first half, Palmeiras athletes entered the field wearing a predominantly green shirt but, for the second half of the game, they returned with another shirt, this one predominantly white, alluding to the effects of deforestation.
“Concern with sustainability is present in everything we do and is a pillar we have in common with Palmeiras. We then created two shirts that raise the issue at an important moment with the aim of raising awareness among fans and the general population”, said Luciana Soares, marketing director at PUMA Brasil.
The new shirts are part of a kit that will be on sale only to Avanti fan members at Palmeiras Store stores, who can purchase them virtually. In total, 1914 units will be sold, a quantity in reference to the year Palmeiras was founded and the number of tree seedlings that Puma and Palmeiras will plant in reforestation areas.
“Palmeiras and PUMA come together, once again, to raise awareness among our millions of fans about an urgent and extremely important issue for all of us. We seek to draw society’s attention to the need to protect the environment, focusing mainly on in combating the deforestation of our forests. It is a fundamental warning for a greener and more sustainable future”, added president Leila Pereira.
