A survey by Preply shows that romantic songs, such as “Eduardo e Mônica” and “Como Eu Te Amo”, dominate online searches.
Although there are those who suspect that singing about romantic love is “out of fashion”, it seems that Brazilians have never been so interested in enjoying good old love songs, whether during special meetings for two, moments of reflection or, why not, to heal your own broken heart? Something that Internet users’ online searches don’t let lie!
The discovery is part of the new survey of Preplya platform that, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, investigated the search for music on digital mechanisms and has just found: in the last twelve months alone, sentimental hits such as “Eduardo e Mônica”, by Legião Urbana, and “Como Eu Te Amo” , by the duo AnaVitória, generated more than 100 thousand searches on the internet, proving that, in times of exaltation of the famous “suffering”, passionate listeners are not an endangered species.
But, after all, along with the titles above, what other national and international love songs have motivated the biggest spikes in online searches among Brazilians? The answers can be seen in the rankings below, which bring together and explore the most popular lyrics and musical translations from the North to the South of the country. How about adding them to the soundtrack of the most romantic date of the year?
“Eduardo e Mônica”, the greatest of Brazilian love songs?
Neither the country hits of the moment, nor even the viral songs of the TikTok: when it comes to the most searched for musical lyrics by Brazilians, the romantic love song that remains lulling the hearts of lovers is, in fact, a famous release from another time, more specifically the end of the eighties. Can you imagine which one it is? Here’s a tip: “who will ever say that there is no reason in things done from the heart?”
With more than 200 thousand online searches in recent months, “Eduardo e Mônica”, by the band Legião Urbana, is the song that tops the podium of romantic lyrics most sought after by internet users, alongside the also classic “Sozinho”, recorded by Caetano Veloso at the turn of the century.
Inspiration for films, plays and advertising campaigns, the composition, based on the relationship between friends of the artist Renato Russo, narrates the love trajectory of the two young people mentioned in its title, who face various obstacles, such as their age difference, social circles and fights, for the sake of the union itself. Considered a milestone in the history of popular music by Rolling Stone magazine, it is one of those songs that everyone, if they don’t know it, has certainly heard of it.
Passion, admiration, longing: what the most searched love songs say
In addition to a great MPB success, what is not lacking in the ranking of romantic lyrics with the most online searches are representatives of other musical genres, which cover not only different rhythms, but specific facets of romantic love.
A work behind more than 114 thousand online searches during the period analyzed, ‘Because I Love You’, by the pop/folk duo AnaVitória, for example, can be described as a sung declaration, in which the lyrical self pays homage to the loved one through verses such as “It’s not chance, it’s just love, there is no mistake” and “only you have your smell”, a message similar to that of ‘Pra Você Guardei o Amor’, by Nando Reis, also present on the list.
In ‘The Saddest Song of the Year’, made entirely of questions addressed to a partner, rapper and R&B singer Luiz Lins reflects insecurely on the possible durability of his own relationship, looking for guarantees that the couple’s feelings will endure to the test of time. No wonder, at a certain point, the artist even asks himself: “when the world hurts me, will you still want to heal my pain?”
In Dominguinhos’ work, in turn, which appears in fifth position in the ranking, what seems to gain focus is not the relationship itself, but the genuine desire to have “a xodó”, a term “cousin” of “chamego” that , as the language platform explains, is usually used to refer to someone you like.
Declaring love in another language
Anyone who follows what usually plays on national radio stations and playlists will have already noticed that, not infrequently, certain foreign love songs go viral and become true anthems among Brazilians, to the point of making artists like Adele, Michael Bublé and Lionel Richie owners of Popular titles from “romantic singers” here too, partly thanks to the sugary melodies and passionate lyrics.
Among its representatives, in any case, the one who stands out most when it comes to Brazilians’ online searches is, in fact, the British musician Ed Sheeran, whose hits ‘Perfect’ and ‘Photograph’ generated tens of thousands of searches for his translations at the Google last year (together, there were around 75 thousand).
This curiosity for what lies behind the lyrics also extends to the works of North American singer Bruno Mars, more specifically the one that is part of the soundtrack of many “lovebirds” in Brazil: ‘It Will Rain’, in which Mars emphasizes his devotion to the loved one through excerpts such as “there will be no sunlight if I lose you, love. There will be no clear skies if I lose you.”
Of the most recent, ‘My Love Mine All Mine’, by Mitski, is perhaps the least known song to listeners far from social media.
The many online searches for its translation, however, are not for nothing: the song about the eternal strength of love, accompanied by subtle instrumentals, is one of those great successes driven by TikTok videos, which have recently made the song a constant presence on the charts. Americans for consecutive weeks, proof that, no matter how many years pass, love will always be on the rise.
Methodology
To uncover the romantic songs of greatest interest in the country, around 25 million Google searches carried out by Brazilians in the last twelve months were considered. The investigation was guided by the expressions “song lyrics”, “music translation” and their variations, covering all searches related to the segment in the five national regions.
Then, excluding tracks that did not explicitly address romantic love in a positive way (heartache, country suffering, betrayal and revenge, for example), artists and their songs were arranged in a ranking based on the total volume of searches in the period in question. question.
