O iFood, a Brazilian technology company, recorded an average of 2600 orders per minute on Valentine’s Day, celebrated on June 12th, totaling 3.8 million orders placed on the platform. This data represents a significant increase of 18% compared to Valentine’s Day in 2023, showing a growth in consumption by Brazilians who wish to celebrate special moments with the convenience and practicality of delivery. Another curiosity is the increase of 1 million more orders than on the previous Wednesday (5), considered a common day of the week.
“We expected an increase in orders on Valentine’s Day and set up a special operation to guarantee an excellent level of service for customers, delivery people and restaurants”, says Arnaldo Bertolaccini, vice-president of Restaurants at iFood.
The iFood survey also shows that the cuisine with the greatest growth, compared to other quarters of the year, was Japanese, with an increase of 47%, followed by pizza, which had 41% more orders. Cakes, pies and sweets also grew by 30%.
In the ranking of most ordered foods, the hamburger continued to lead. In second position were meat dishes; in the third, Japanese food; on Wednesday, desserts; and, on Thursday, sandwiches, which reflects the diversity of tastes and preferences of iFood users.
“This year’s Valentine’s Day corroborates the growing demand for delivery, including on celebration dates. The 18% increase in iFood orders compared to last year reflects a trend in which people are opting for convenience and practicality. It is important to highlight that the increase in demand helps to boost the sales of small and medium-sized restaurants, which currently make up 75% of the base of establishments registered in the application, helping to positively impact the gastronomic ecosystem”, concludes Bertolaccini.
