Francisco de Mesquita Neto leaves his position as CEO of the Group to become Chairman of the Board
Erick Bretas was chosen to occupy the CEO position at Estadão. With this, Francisco de Mesquita Neto leaves his position as CEO of Grupo Estado and will be the new president of the Board of Directors, which will be formed by Roberto Crissiuma Mesquita, Manoel Lemos, Marcelo Pereira Malta de Araújo, Marco Bologna and Tito Enrique da Silva Neto.
Hiring Bretas is in line, above all, with Estadão’s plans to accelerate digital transformation projects. According to the company, the priority given to investment in its digital platforms resulted in ‘huge advances in attracting qualified audiences’.
With more than 27 years of experience, Erick Bretas has experience in both creating and producing content and managing digital businesses. Before joining Estadão, Bretas was director of digital products and paid channels at Globo, a position he held until February this year, when he left Globo.
For 16 years, he dedicated himself to journalism, holding positions such as editor-in-chief of Jornal da Globo, regional director of Journalism in Rio de Janeiro and executive director of Central Globo de Jornalismo. He has a degree in Social Communication from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, a master’s degree in Media Regulation and Communication from the London School of Economics and an Executive MBA from Fundação Dom Cabral.
“I will seek to expand and deepen the digital transformation process that the company has been experiencing since the end of the last decade. I will also seek to expand the company’s revenue through new businesses and, above all, ensure the journalistic integrity of Estadão, preserving its values, its brand and its purpose”, stated Bretas.
