This Tuesday (25), during the Google for Startups press conference, an initiative that helps startups growing, the Google announced results of a study on the use of generative artificial intelligence in startups Brazilians. The objective of the study is to understand where Brazil is positioned within the AI “phenomenon”, compared to the main centers in the world.
The main results of the research, conducted by Box1824 in a period in which the use of AI itself was gaining strength, revealed that the market is still quite homogeneous, that diversity has not yet penetrated the development of GenAI and that the solutions developed are mostly B2B .
Regarding challenges, the identified obstacles can be divided into some blocks, such as:
- Business front: GenAI has not yet found business traction big enough for it to start growing, scaling and reaching more people; It is still in an experimental phase. At the same time, 22% of startups Interviewees stated that it is not yet possible to quantify and measure the results of using GenAl.
- Regulatory: 83% of respondents believe in the need for specific regulation for GenAI. Furthermore, according to the survey, 84% of entrepreneurs believe that regulation should be linked to a private institution, while others believe that it should be linked to a bill or even to AI itself, “self-regulating”.
- Societal readiness: is the concern with responsible use. Google uses the expression “bold and responsible”, a vision also present for entrepreneurs, especially in relation to use and work, thinking that AI can have an impact on the execution of certain tasks.
- Literacy: the topic of qualification and training of talents is central to the development of generative AI in Brazil, within the vision of startups. For 59% of respondents, education and market awareness about what GenAl is and how to use it responsibly can help in the development of the technology. 37% believe that an evolution in basic education to develop logical reasoning among Brazilians is essential.
“We aim to promote AI that is ethical and promising. That’s why. we need to create bridges, not only focus on regulation, but also on encouraging and promoting AI in general”, said Rodrigo Scotti, President of the Brazilian Association of Artificial Intelligence.
Adoption of generative AI
The types of adoption of generative AI change a lot, being more directed towards creating data sources and recommendations for activities.
“There is still no perfect plan for how this technology will be incorporated, and how startups will use generative AI more strategically”, explained André Barrence, Director of Google for Startups for Latin America.
However, finding these metrics, whether for internal challenges or to incorporate into products, is a very important point for broad adoption. Curation and guidance are also very important in helping startups to navigate better.
The lack of capital became much more evident in this research. There is a great need for investment, both private and public, for the development of AI and to generate more innovation in Brazil. Between the startups When interviewed, 25% said they did not have a specific budget for this purpose. According to Barrence, the big perception is that longer deadlines and patience are needed for products to prove themselves and return capital.
Despite this, 56% of Brazilians are optimistic about the use of AI and trust in data protection. Furthermore, 41% believe in increasing productivity at work.
“Understanding the need for protection is now a reality, how entrepreneurs take this responsible journey will make all the difference. A fundamental factor in attracting investments”, highlighted the director.
Paulo Tenório, CEO of Trakto, a company specializing in generative AI and a Google partner, also participated in the press conference, speaking about the impact of GenAI.
“The first result of using AI may not be so good. O prompt It’s a first step for human beings to start getting used to it, but it won’t replace it. The blank page is a big challenge. When we base our entire project on a prompt, we are underestimating the capacity of human beings. My suggestion is to teach. AI education has to be based on good Portuguese and knowing how to work as a team,” she highlighted.
The Google for Startups study reveals a challenging and promising panorama. With adequate investments and a commitment to ethics and responsibility, the use of generative AI in startups is positioned in a scenario of great opportunities, boosting its growth and the development of Brazilian innovation.
