iStock, a leading e-commerce platform that offers images, videos and illustrations for small and medium-sized businesses, highlights that for small organizations, this distrust presents a challenge: how to authentically connect with your audience in an environment filled with skepticism?
A key finding is that people expect transparency, with nearly 90% of respondents saying they want to know whether an image was created using AI.
“Businesses across industries are struggling with integrating generative AI into their creative workflow, and it’s crucial that they understand the risks and rewards of this technology. Visual content experts at iStock have identified several key points to consider when incorporating AI-generated imagery into your marketing strategy:
- Are AI-generated images the right resources for this project? Consider the type of visual content (AI-generated, user-generated, or stock photography), including the format (image or video) that best aligns with your audience, message, and goals. The VisualGPS survey revealed that 98% of consumers agree that “authentic” images and videos are key to establishing trust, indicating that when building trust is the focus, user-generated content or stock image content can perform better to engage audiences;
- Can AI-generated images help my business stand out? Human creativity, when applied to AI-generated images and visual concepts, can result in endless possibilities, allowing you to get the image you want faster. Still, high-quality images or videos created by expert creators can meet your content needs and save you time and money. AI technology can also modify existing image banks, adding, replacing, or removing any elements to further customize the image for your project;
- When should I flag that images are generated by AI? Transparency is key, especially if authenticity is an important part of your online strategy. Use images and videos that show real people in real places to connect with your audience. Clearly signal that the content is AI-generated to prevent your audience from feeling misled;
- Are AI-generated images legally safe for marketing content? Make sure that the AI imaging tools you use do not create content with legally protected elements that could pose a risk to your company. Opt for commercially safe and legally indemnified AI image generators like iStock’s Generative AI to ensure your marketing materials are safe and clear for commercial use.
