Make a review of an animation like Despicable Me 4 It’s always a complicated task, lol. That’s because the goal isn’t to be a great movie, but rather to be fun without commitment. So there’s no point in saying that the movie has a certain “belly” in the middle, because what matters are the scenes, the references to pop culture, and of course, the Minions. They continue to be adorable and hilarious. Despicable Me 4 premiered in theaters today, and it made me laugh a lot.
Now, Gru and his wife Lucy (with the national voices of Leandro Hassum and Maria Clara Gueiros), and their girls Margo, Edith and Agnes welcome a new member of the family: Gru Jr., who lives tormenting his father. While adapting to the little one, Gru faces a great enemy, Maxime Le Mal. After being arrested by Gru, he escapes from prison and now threatens everyone’s safety. Then the family has to flee the danger, and move to another city – along with the Minions, of course. The girls try to adapt to the new school, while Lucy encourages Gru to try to live a simpler life, away from the dangerous adventures of almost all his life. He even tries, but then he meets Poppy, a surprising aspiring villain…
What did I think?
This is the sixth film in the franchise. Favorite Evil (four of Evil and two of Minions). The first five grossed over 4.6 billion dollars worldwide. And this sixth one will certainly increase that number – and a lot. That’s because it has all the characteristics of success of the franchise. It’s physical humor, the kind that will make you laugh without really knowing why. Especially with the Minions, who I love!
But that’s not all. There are several references to pop culture and cinema. Notice the train scenes (Spider man), dos Mega Minions (Fantastic Four) and James Bond (the prologue), among others. And of course, it is impossible not to remember The Boss Baby when we see Gru Jr.. They didn’t even bother to hide it, lol.
The aspiring villain Poppy is fun (too bad there’s no subtitled version so we can hear Joey King’s voice). The main villain, Maxime, is very much in the style of the film – with his obsession with cockroaches, lol – and the ending is fun. Especially the number that even has the participation of villains from the previous films.
In other words, it’s worth watching to have fun, especially with the Minions!
