Piece created by Wonderhood Studios shows what would be left of the British team without names like Bellingham and Kane
England will play for a place in the Euro 2024 final this Wednesday (10), in a game against the Netherlands. To take advantage of the timing, Wonderhood Studios presented a campaign that aims to invite British fans to imagine what the team would be like without immigrants.
The piece, made up of a poster published on the producer’s social media and created for the Migration Museum, shows that without Bellingham, Saka, Walker and Kane, the British team would only be left with Pickford, Stones and Foden and would probably have already been eliminated from the competition.
“The strategy was to get England fans to talk more positively about migration by asking them to consider what might have happened to the England team without it,” said Jack Croft, deputy executive creative director at Wonderhood Studios.
The campaign is being launched at the same time as the issue of immigration is being heavily debated during the UK Parliamentary elections. All of the players featured in the poster were either born abroad or were children/grandchildren of immigrants.
“From the announcement of the starting line-up to our incredible five penalty takers, you can’t deny that immigration is a success story for our most loved – and sometimes hated – national sport,” added Stacey Bird, deputy executive creative director.
